The Church and its purpose
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:17-19
In our country, there is a certain geographical area that is called the “Bible Belt” and the reason for this, is due to the large volume of individuals who attend houses of worship, not only on Sunday, but throughout the week. I truly believe they are very sincere in their endeavor. However, upon a careful study, I observed that so many who attend these houses of worship, attend for a variety of reasons.
Some attend because they love the fellowship, some know that following the worship service they will be served a plate of food, while others attend looking for a companion or a future mate, but very few really have an understanding as to the true purpose for attending these worship services.
These houses of worship are usually called “Churches”. As we look at the dictionary, the definition of a church is a house of worship, but are these beautiful edifices really churches? And why do people attend these meetings regularly?
Once Jesus was asked by one of his disciples, “Lord, show us the father, and that will be enough for us”, Jesus showed how one could be sitting in these houses of worship, but have no clue as to why they are there. Jesus responded to him, “Don’t you know me, Phillip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the father, how can you say, Show us the father”
In the coming months, it is our endeavor with the help of the Holy Spirit, to answer questions such as these:
What is the church?
Can anyone join the church?
Who is the head of the church?
What are some of the metaphors of the church?
Is the church relevant for today’s society?
What is the purpose of the church?
Why are there so many hypocrites in the church?
These are some of the areas we will be covering especially as the holidays are upon us, and so many are looking forward to attending various houses of worship, especially on first night.
We encourage you to join us either for the 8:00am or 11:00am Sunday morning worship experience. Weekly we have been experiencing the glory of God as the Holy Spirit continues to give revelation knowledge in the Holy Scriptures. You will be richly blessed with a powerful worship experience where we have seen the power of the Word manifested in miracles, signs and wonders.
May God’s richest blessing be upon you and your family.
