Hi there!
This question has been on our mind for a while so I wanted to bring it up, mostly due to one of your posts. Hopefully this would also help others.
We have a few introjects from games we hyperfixated on. Most of us have English/European names, but some of us come from a Japanese source and still associate heavily with their source name. We have been working on finding new names for these alters, but haven't succeded in finding one they really want at the moment. So I guess our questions are:
-Is there any advice you can give us to find names for these alters?
-Would it be okay to choose a name that sounds similar to the original name?
-Would it be okay to choose a name that is basically a translation of the character's name?
I hope this is worded correctly, English is not our first language.

First of all, we think it’s wonderful that they’re making an effort to change their names! We appreciate it <33
As for advice, baby name websites! It’s kind of weird but if you look up certain keywords related to their names with “baby names” after it I think you’ll find a lot of good ones! (example: the name mikan means orange/tangerine so you could look up “fruit related baby names”)
It’s totally ok to find names that sound similar to the original! As long as they aren’t Japanese names or from any other closed culture
A direct translation is a great idea! You could even translate to something like Italian or Greek if you’re not feeling the English translation.
We hope this helped! Thank you for the ask ^^
