GUYS, I made an embroidered illustration and loved every minute of it! Here is my piece What the Crow Stole for Light Grey Art Lab’s Patches + Stitches show that opened tonight at their gallery in Minneapolis.
The last time I had even touched embroidery tools was when I was a brownie (2nd grade?), and my mom was teaching my troop how to embroider so that we could all get merit badges. I made a tiny sunflower, and then accidentally called it quits until now. Well, never again will I ignore this medium - it’s so much fun, and really got me thinking about shapes and colors in a whole new way. There will absolutely be more of this in my future.
A big thank you goes out to Light Grey Art Lab for inviting me to join in on this show, and giving me a chance to flex some different art-making muscles. They’re an incredibly fresh gallery, and are always turning out shows that excite and inspire. Everybody in the show made incredible work, and you can see all of it right here: http://lightgreyartlab.com/2015-exhibitions/#/patches-stitches/ Unless you’re in Minneapolis, in which case you can go to their gallery until July 19th and see everything in person. I highly recommend it!
