I belong to me,
no one else.
Home is where I am, and it’s sweet.
If you’re looking for someone to possess, to own, rescue or repurpose,
that’s not me.
I’ve lost everything I thought I couldn’t live without, and yet I’m alive.
I hurtled straight off the cliff, and broke on impact, retrieved the pieces, and glued them back in place.
I thought being alone was the thing most to be feared.
I learned that being with someone can be more lonely.
I came face-to-face with my own reflection, and made peace with her, delved deeply into my soul, and found a friend.
I don’t need you to complete me,
I am whole.
I don’t need your company,
I am content.
I don’t need your protection,
I am capable.
I don’t need you to need me,
I have a purpose.
I don’t need your approval, acceptance, agreement or admiration, but I appreciate it when it happens.
I can enjoy your company, your friendship, your love, maybe fall in love.
But I’ll still be mine.
