☥ KANE CHRONICLES' EGYPTIAN GODS AND THEIR MAGICIAN'S HEADCANONS: 𓃩 SET: GOD OF (NECESSARY) EVIL AND CHAOS, OF THE DESERT AND STORMS, OF WAR AND STRENGTH feat. AMOS 𓁣
A/N: Y’know it feels sort of tempting fate or something to write Set right after Isis, but hey it just seemed to flow right afterwards. I thought Set would be a lot harder but it was slightly easier to write this one. Still took a lot out of me but I was having fun with this one! I also included Amos because he feels very relevant for the setting of these headcanons. EGYPTIAN GODS AND THEIR MAGICIANS MASTERLIST {A03} || {TUMBLR}
Well, this is an unusual connection to have out of all the Path of the Gods. Set is considered a rather volatile god and many avoid him on principle due to his association; so someone pursuing the Path of Set must have their reasons and ambitions or they already have a compatibility towards Set. Perhaps it’s this reason, the Path of Set offers a lot more than the average Path of the Gods routes and they are all useful in terms of Egyptian-realm.
The Path of Set are Chaos/Storm magic, Sand magic, fire magic, and Combat Magic, with Transformation as Fruits bats and storm clouds. They are all very useful in terms of direct combat which fits Set perfectly. This route is probably best to those who want to get directly involved and aren’t afraid to do so.
Set doesn’t have a lot of magicians following his path and he knows why, so when you establish a connection with him, you better expect him to be very involved. He’s going to taunt you and ask you so many questions, but the fact you’re pursuing his path makes him interested and curious about what kind of magician you are.
Expect Amos to be there immediately by your side as a mentor, teacher, and guardian the moment he finds out you’re pursuing the Path of Amos. While he has a better understanding and relationship with Set, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t remember what it was like being possessed by Set. He asks you carefully why you chose this path and if you truly want to go down the Path of Set, and if you do, he will accept your answer. However, he will be a presence in your life as a magician, especially if you’re young, to make sure you are doing well, providing tips and lessons when required, and to make sure Set doesn’t overwhelm you in some shape or form.
That said, you can probably guess but once people hear you’re pursuing the Path of Set, expect a lot of discrimination and negative reactions. As much as Set is an important god and especially his role after the battle with Apophis, he’s still not looked upon that well. It will be only tested at every corner and you’ll be practicing a lot of self control. It does help when people find out Amos is basically your mentor but he can only be your shield for only so long.
Expect Set to always suggest more brutal and violent options to the point he is going to be intrusive thoughts. You will be practicing a lot of logical reasoning and reason with Set that as much as it might be the easiest choice, you cannot for [insert reason]. However, you should let Set out to fight every so often as a treat. Not because he may deserve it but it's the best way to not let the intrusive thoughts win and it just releases some of his energy that will keep him satisfied for a bit. Or not because it might encourage him. Who knows? You’re the one who is talking to Set so it's at your own discretion.
It's very easy to tap into the power of Set if you tap into the power of the emotion of malevolence but when you transform that malevolent emotion to something more noble, like protecting your fellow magicians and the innocent, that’s when Set’s power truly shines. This is because Set was and is one of Ra’s most powerful servants and was responsible for protecting him from Apophis; making him a benevolent god and protector; right before the Upper and Lower Egypt merged and followers of Horus began to demonize Set with Apophis.
However, there is always that slight slip if you get too excited and you can feel Set’s power filling you and threatens on being drunk, and the line to do something extreme is always there.
I feel like that Path of Set requires tapping into your emotions more than the Duat, because with the nature of Storm and Fire Nature. However, one must have a steady focus, Storm and Fire magic becomes from uncontrollable power of destruction to powerful tools.
Pursuing the path of Set requires you to have an affinity with fire as Fire Magic is one of the paths, but whether you can perform Storm Magic will also depend if you have a talent/strength in Water elemental magic; which will be difficult if you follow the belief that elemental magic reflects the personality of the user. THat said, I believe magicians with an affinity or compatibility with air magic are very useful. Water magic is important as Storm magic includes hurricanes which are more water based then say Tornadoes; which are more Air + Fire based as air and fire are more compatible; thus making it much more easier to channel tornadoes, heavy winds, and later lightning. Given that Fire and Water are contradictory elements, it is hard to say whether you are able to naturally or have to learn both elemental magics will be a very difficult journey to perfect all Storm magic. So don’t be too disappointed if you can’t summon hurricanes; although you might have to endure Set’s comments.
Expanding on elemental magic affinities and pursuing the Path of Set, I believe there are not many who can do it not only because their affinity or personality compatibility towards Set, but it also requires you having a great balance of skill level in all elemental magic as not only you have to be compatible with Fire for fire magic and the heat of the desert, Air for the storms, tornadoes and heavy winds, and Water for hurricanes and to transform into storm clouds, you also have to be compatible with Earth magic to not only learn how to manipulate Sand magic, which requires finer control of Earth magic. I believe that’s how you are also able to tap into and control Chaos magic a.k.a. Lightning because you become an expert in learning the four basic elemental magical elements.
Maybe it's because you have the potential and skill to learn all the elemental magic proves you are strong enough in determination and character that you can communicate with Set properly as a magician to a god, and earn his favour because given your talents and strengths, he will acknowledge you as a magician and as a person.

“Consider me intrigued little magician! I’m curious what drives you to communicate with me to seek my power! I don’t really care for the useless rules my other fellow gods like to follow, but I am interested in what you will do with my power and guidance. Now show me what your ambition and goals are, for I am Set, God of Necessary Evil, of deserts, storms, strength, and chaos!”
