Daniil probably has Georgian heritage

"Where I come from, nuts are ground into flour by the hundreds—to be added into honey or a sauce" The first thing a person from any post-Soviet country would think of is the Georgian walnut sauce bazhe. It is used to make satsivi (poultry with bazhe), a dish that was relatively popular in USSR. There's also much less known Moldovan/Romanian walnut sauce scordolea. My headcanon is that his mother was Georgian and married his father when he served in the Caucasus (or in a similar region in the world of Pathologic). Daniil definitely lived there for some time, but then either went to study in the Capital on his own or moved there with his family.

EDIT: I've forgotten to mention gozinaki, a Georgian confection made of honey and nuts. It's popular in the post-Soviet countries too.
