Hi! Who are you?

I’m Patrick Burton, and yes, I’m John’s brother. I’m 38 years old and the Muggle Music Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I’m in Gryffindor house, and I’m a half-blood. I often get mistaken for Richard Hammond.

Great! Now that we're acquainted, let's hear a little bit about yourself.

Being the youngest child is never easy, particularly when you end up at the same school. With his brother John’s reputation seemingly standing in his way, Patrick Burton was determined that, if nothing else, he was going to be his own person. Being sorted into Gryffindor had, at the time, been the best moment of Patrick’s life; he was finally going to do his own thing! And while the house fit his boisterous and daring personality to a tee, being separated from his brother wasn’t all that he had wished it to be. Despite his best efforts, he dearly missed his brother. But with his pride in his way, Patrick resolved to continue to find himself, out of the shadow of his brother.

While his brother’s interests in astronomy grew, so did Patrick’s rebellious nature. Spending much of his time pulling pranks on his fellow students, occassionally joined by his brother, it wasn’t until he was given a rather odd detention in his second year, cleaning muggle musical instruments, that he finally found something that interested him. It had started simply, accidentally hitting the string of a double bass and, after the shock of the deep sound, instantly falling for the tone. He soon enrolled in music classes, both magical and muggle, and fell deeply in love with the wonderful outlet that only music could bring.

He hadn’t intended to end up working alongside his brother, but no matter how skilled one may become, the music industry was a hard one to break into, and so, with the encouragement of his former music teacher and his brother, he found himself applying at Hogwarts to teach muggle music. Much to his delight, he was accepted quickly and easily, and began to share his passion with his students. But despite the joy that teaching these young faces gave him, he still couldn’t help but wonder if that was all. Was he truly living his dream? Should he have given up on his little band to teach instead?

So now tell us about some of your relationships.

John Burton: He may know how to annoy me more than anyone I’ve ever met, but I do love my big brother.

Neville Longbottom: We met during the war. I’ll admit, I was a bit reluctant to join Dumbledore’s Army, but Neville was a great support, and he’s been a close friend ever since.
