Patrick Dufour ❖ 32/403 ❖ Faerie ❖ Artist ❖ Living in Vaasos ❖ FC: N/A ❖ DEPARTED
Biography:
Patrick Dufour is ruthless even for a faerie. He will not tolerate any law-breaking in his city, and he will bring down an iron fist on those that dare to break the laws. The assassin, Meralda Sauvigni, is a cause of constant strife for him as the woman slips from his gasp at every turn, and is constantly able to elude both himself and the guards he has searching for her. Patrick does have a good sense of humour, but his people hardly ever see it. He wasn't always so strict and aloof as a governor though, there was a time when he would walk the streets, greeting everyone he passed by, and people were glad that they had elected him to govern their city. But when Patrick's sister was murdered, everything changed.
Patrick loved his sister more than anything in the world. Although she drove him mad with her constant practical jokes and the men she brought him, he still cared about her. Most of the men she brought to meet him were terrified, and he enjoyed putting the fear into their hearts. But when his sister brought home her new beau Viktor, he looked him dead in the eyes and saw not a single trace of fear. It was as though his eyes were polished stones. Patrick never approved of him, but his disapproval only made her sister want to be with him more. She brought Viktor home at every opportunity just to annoy her brother, but Patrick noticed she started getting much quieter and acted less like her usual bubbly self. When she started coming home with bruises on a different body part every week, that's when Patrick realised what was going on. His sister begged him not to throw Viktor in prison, and he agreed, as long as she didn't see him any more. A few nights later, Patrick was awoken to the sound of shouting in the street below. Looking out of his window, he saw Viktor, drunk out of his mind and arguing with his sister on the doorstep. Just as Patrick was about to go downstairs and deal with the situation, something caught his eye. Viktor was wearing thick leather gloves, even though it was the middle of summer, but what had caught Patrick's eye was the glint of metal, and when Viktor raised it, he realised why Viktor was wearing gloves. Before Patrick had the chance to move, Viktor had stabbed his sister through the heart with the iron spike in his hand. Viktor immediately ran, and Patrick would have chased after him, but he had to take care of his sister. He only had time to hold her in his arms for a few seconds before she died, and her body turned to dust.
Patrick was never the same after that night. He had Viktor thrown in prison for what he did, and whilst the public believed he had been given a life sentence, Patrick had other ideas. He went to see Viktor in his prison cell and spent hours trying a variety of different torture methods on him. Death was too good for him, and Patrick tortured him for weeks before he finally decided to kill him in the slowest and most painful way possible. Even though he had had his revenge, nothing filled the void in his life that his sister had left behind. He became a changed man, stern and serious, no longer everyone's best friend. Patrick has tried everything to try and ease the guilt he feels for his sister's death, but the only thing that comes close to working is painting.
Patrick can pour out his soul on a canvas using only oil paints and a brush. Having somewhere to direct his anger, sadness and guilt helps to soothe his pain a little, but it is not a permanent fix. Patrick can't even talk to his closest friend, Leith, about his sister's death. Every time he mentions it, Patrick changes he subject or leaves, and Leith has learned simply not to bring it up any more. It is somewhat ironic that Patrick thinks Leith should move on from his divorce when he can't move on from his sister's death. The irony is not lost on Leith, but he keeps his mouth shut because he knows that the pain of divorcing his wife is nowhere near as painful as watching your sister die.
He took the side of the vampires during the Uprising as he believed that it was time for a change in Nysa. Patrick believes that all of the species should keep themselves separate in their cities and should govern themselves. He was tired of having to take orders from the crown when Vaasos was his city, and so he joined Aldred's forces and most of the fae followed him. Patrick didn't particularly like the vampires, but he fought alongside them because of their common enemy. During the final battle for Abdera, Patrick was captured and taken to the palace prison to await his trial. It was very fortunate that he was such good friends with Leith, as he managed to talk the other council members out of giving him the death penalty. Instead, Patrick was stripped of his position as governor and he has been working as an artist since then to make ends meet.
Patrick is currently travelling around the various kingdoms as an artist.
Connections:
Leith Vitalis - Close Friend. Patrick is always able to have a laugh when Leith is around, although he doesn't get to see him as often as he would like. He believes that Leith needs to move on from his divorce and perhaps take a lover to make Vianne jealous. Thanks to his friendship with Leith, Patrick was not sentenced to death for his part in the uprising, and he knows that he owes Leith his life.
Meralda Sauvigni - Acquaintance. Patrick has noticed the girl everywhere he goes, and she often tries to start a conversation with him, but he just ignores her. He has no time for pleasant conversation with strangers any more.
