This really had me going for the first hour.

Regardless of the Ghandi quote before the film:

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”

I cannot get on board (heh) with the films insistence on creating some sort of “ethical” dilemma which by the end just made me feel nothing short of enraged. I don’t usually like to review films purely from a subjective standpoint, buts it’s hard not to with one of Amazon’s newest films - 7500.

I don’t care how empathetic or thoughtful of a person you are - if a hijacker stood by while their partner in crime slit my wife’s throat, I don’t think me or any normal person would be holding ourselves back from taking that attacker down. And Joseph Gordon Levitt’s character has MULTIPLE opportunities to do this in the last act when he has a piece of glass hidden from said hijacker. Instead he just tries to talk the hijacker through whatever “personal crises” he is having.

And then, to make it better, when the police support on the ground kill the hijacker, he then tries to resuscitate the guy to make sure he survives. All the while his wife is lying butchered a few feet away in a pool of blood.

Naw. This film relies on shock value for an opening. And then tries to use some Ghandi quote you would find crocheted on a plaque hanging in some pseudo intellectual person’s house to justify JGL’s wimpy main character’s actions near the end.

I might sound hateful. Joseph Gordon Levitt returns to acting with an impressive performance. The first hour of this film is a taught, intense and slightly heart wrenching one. I have a general fear of flying so this is my worst nightmare come true.

I’ll give it this, it’s certainly the first film where one of the hijackers are the ones who help land the plane they just kept under siege.

I don’t buy it though, and I certainly can’t stand some sort of moral pandering that the director thought they were trying to be subtle about.

7500 didn’t stick its landing. It crashed and burned instead.

Sinopse: Quando terroristas tentam tomar o controle de um voo Berlim-Paris, um jovem copiloto americano luta para salvar a vida dos passageiros e da tripulação com sua voz calma, enquanto cria uma relação surpreendente com um dos sequestradores.

Durante um voo, terroristas tenta sequestrar um avião. Há uma luta corporal e enquanto  um dos pilotos é ferido gravemente o outro morre. Um dos sequestradores fica desacordado dentro da cabine e outros dois do lado lado de fora ameaçando os passageiros.

Toda essa tensão e ação são passadas dentro da cabine de pilotos. O que vemos o que se passa do lado de fora é por câmeras de segurança, logo na sequência de abertura; por uma câmera dentro da cabine que mostra pouco do interior da aeronave; e de dentro da cabine, pelos janelas vemos um casal de passageiros atrasados embarcando e só. A grande sacada do filme está em concentrar a ação justamente no confinamento da cabine de comando.

Em uma frase: Um voo turbulento e tenso.
