Party Night || M!A - High!Charlie
Sam and Patrick had thrown a party for Spring Break. Their parents had said they had made plans to be out that night, which Charlie thought was strange because they had known what days Sam and Patrick would be back, but then he thought maybe it was their way of letting Sam and Patrick throw the party without really letting them do it. They seemed like the nice kind of parents who would let their college children that they loved do that, and Charlie thought it was very nice of them.
When he got there, there were already a lot of people. As it turned out, the party wasn't really just Sam and Patrick's. Everybody who was back in town from college and was part of that "circle" was there. Charlie looked around for Sam or Patrick or maybe Mary Elizabeth or Alice, but he couldn't find them. And he felt strange asking people. The first person he did find was Bob. He was unwrapping two trays of brownies.
"Want one, Charlie?"
"Not really. I'm trying not to do that anymore." He said, because it was true.
"The aren't all Special, Charlie."
"Really?" That didn't seem like a very Bob thing to do.
"Yeah, Sam told me you'd be around so I made two batches."
"Wow. Thanks."
"Yeah. No problem."
"So which one is the 'special' one?"
"Uh..." Bob seemed unsure for a minute, which Charlie thought was a little strange.
"Oh, right! I remember. This one. The one on the green tray."
"That's the special one?"
"No, it's the regular one." he sounded pretty sure of himself now.
"Okay."
It tasted a little funny, but Bob told Charlie he'd tried something different with them up at the culinary institute so that was why. But after a half hour or so, the room started to slip away from him. Everything felt kind of different, and he couldn't hear so well, like his ears were stuffed with cotton. But not the same kind as well you have a head cold. This was somehow a good kind. Charlie started blinking a lot and looking around. Everything felt heavy like he was underwater. Everything but him.
He felt light.
He was heading to the bathroom when he bumped into somebody.
"Oh." he said, sort of not really seeing the person. "Sorry." He started to laugh, but didn't know why.
