Disaster trio keeps me going, how do the other sides react?
u and me both buddy
(this…. got stupid long. sorry)
the other sides handle it from the best to the worst in This Exact Order: Virgil, Patton, then (surprisingly) Roman
We’ll start with the Purp Man
see, the thing is, virgil has a history with both deceit and remus and it is not a particularly nice one, either. in addition, virgil is a Chronic Worrier. it is a part of his function as anxiety. as such, one would assume that virgil would vocal a consistent and vocal NO to logan chilling with the dark sides.
HOWEVER. virgil also knows logan, like… almost better than he knows any other side. they’re bros. they vibe. logan is the first side that virgil goes to when his irrational thoughts start to overwhelm him, because logan Can and Will completely dismantle all cognitive distortions with cold, hard fact and Objective Truth. virgil watched logan calmly talk down all of remus’s destructive tendencies in a similar manner. in other words, logan knows what he is doing; virgil understands this.
that said, he doesn’t trust the other dark sides at all at first. he does, however, trust logan. as such, he doesn’t worry too much when Logan and the Bad Boys start to grow close.
and if deceit and remus start to mellow out under logan’s influence (and if logan starts to smile more under theirs), then. that’s just a bonus
Onto Pat
patton, as morality, is not a huge fan of remus or deceit. he doesn’t dislike them – he’s happy pappy patton, so he doesn’t dislike anyone, truthfully – but, of all the sides they… are not…….. his favorite
listen, remus is kind of scary (and gross. and disturbing), and deceit is kind of mean (and abrasive, and catty). i am not here to dispute this, and neither is patton.
HOWEVER. much like virgil, patton trusts logan. he trusts logan’s decisions. he knows that logan knows what he’s doing, because logan always knows what he’s doing …….. doesn’t he?
except patton is more prone to doubting logan, because unlike virgil – who banks on logan’s logic being enough to keep him safe – patton knows that logan struggles with emotions. as such, he worries that the dark sides may be… detrimental to logan’s emotional development
what if deceit and remus are trying to get logan on their side to wreak havoc on thomas? what if they are using logan? (…what if they hurt him?)
patton worries about logan, and this makes him more vocal with his protests. his protests, however, are framed as gentle questions more than anything else: “are you sure it’s safe to spend that much time in deceit’s room? remus hasn’t tried anything too terrible, has he?,” etc. etc.
his worries are only quelled when, in a particularly serious moment, he asks logan “are you happy?” and logan doesn’t even hesitate before he replies with a clear, honest “yes”
Finally, we have the Prince
as remus’s brother, deceit’s (…friend? close casual acquaintance? Fellow Drama Gay?) – deceit’s whatever – logan assumes that roman will be the least concerned with how much time he chooses to spend with the dark sides
it therefore comes as a figurative sucker punch to the gut when roman begins to exhibit visible disdain at the disaster trio’s… arrangement
to get one thing clear: roman never tells logan not to hang out with the dark sides. roman is well aware that this kind of command would be Completely Out of his Lane. however, once logan has firmly established himself among the dark sides, roman starts to… change.
he makes excuses to leave the room whenever logan is around. he shoots dirty glares at deceit and remus any chance he gets. when remus extends a tentative olive branch – a paper tube sword to battle with like when they were kids – roman slams the door in his face.
after a few months of this, logan decides that he has had enough. he calls roman out on something – maybe an underhanded comment about remus, or a particularly biting remark about deceit – and the tension is immediately and obviously palpable.
logan and roman argue. logan doesn’t understand what roman’s problem is – his brother isn’t dangerous. deceit isn’t evil. logan isn’t stupid, he is an adult that knows how to pick his own friends and make his own decisions
“what is the problem?!” logan finally asks – seethes – fists clenched so hard at his sides that he can feel them biting into his skin. and roman just. breaks.
“the problem is me!”
logan is stunned. he doesn’t understand what that means. but roman – roman is already explaining, teeth bared, shoulders shaking. broken sob on the inhale.
“it’s like you’re right there, but you’re gone at the same time. i never even see you anymore.
what is it about me that drove you away? what did i… what did i do?”
and oh. oh my god. roman isn’t angry. he’s insecure. he’s jealous. (he’s scared.)
it takes logan a moment to process this. (he’s bad at emotions, everyone knows this by now). but once he has figured out the root of the issue, he does what he does best. he completely and utterly destroys every misconception that roman has.
“roman… if you missed spending time with me, all you had to do was ask.”
logan succinctly and clearly lays out the facts; he started hanging out with the dark sides because they share many things in common. he did not intend for it to be read as a dismissal of the light sides, whom he still regards as his… friends (still not used to that word). he still finds roman’s presence agreeble, and the lack of roman’s presence in his life has made a… notable impact on logan’s emotional well-being.
roman, through tears: that is the nicest thing you have ever said to me, You Giant Nerd
from that point on, everything is (squints at notecard) … Gucci.
once everyone has accepted that the disaster trio is Here to Stay, there is an Audible “Uh-Oh” as the others realize what destructive force has just been unleashed in the mind palace
