julipat idea i had earlierrrr
divorced dad julian currently has custody of rachel, and her local brownies group disperses / is shut down. so instead, julian approaches the local scouts group and gets her in that. que julian turning back up every now and then to make sure rachel isnt being bullied etc, and que pat - the over helpful scout leader - talking to julian as often as possible to update him on how rachel's doing.
(none of the boys are mean about rache getting in btw. she can beat them all in a fight, and they're much more interested in seeing julian be oblivious and their beloved skipper fail badly at flirting)
rachel and daley become besties obviously (esp since pat asked him to keep an eye on her in case any of the boys were mean) so of COURSE pat and julian have to meet more often outside of scouts for playdate reasons
a vague fic idea that I have but struggle to flesh out: Pat is a werewolf, and Julian is a vampire. Both were turned at the same time in the same woods, and by virtue of that and the fact no one else will believe them, end up becoming close. Closer than close, they live together, move around together when locals start to get suspicious, do their best to appeal like functional adults during the time they have custody of their kids, and look out for one another. Julian starts to keep an eye on when the next full moon is and always checks the places they go for silver. Pat takes note of when Julian's running low on blood and helps him picks out an acceptable victim. Idk I just think it'd be a fun dynamic to explore. Maybe they hear about some supposed witch or whatever who can cure them and go on a hunt that ultimately fails, or maybe they just finally figure out how to handle their new supernatural lives/afterlives, but regardless they Should kiss about it.
Also I think this is best if it happens not long after Julian has, somehow, ruined his reputation so you have the confusion of Disgraced Politician Julian Fawcett and Some Guy tm Pat Butcher randomly moving in together. No one understands it. No one likes it. They don't even live in the same part of England, how did they even meet? They have several explanations for this, and all of them are bad.
[Update, did write a fic based off this idea]
I am once again thinking of Pat and Julian... ‘i can make him better’ vs ‘i can make him worse’... them both succeeding and actually helping each other grow... Pat finding love again while Julian truly confronts the hurt he's caused and trying to do better... Julian encouraging Pat to be a bit more spontaneous and move out of his comfort zone while Pat helps Julian see the good in mundane activities... Daley and Rachel being siblings...
more content for me and me alone, aka werewolves, vampires and patulian
I swear I made a post about this already but damned if I can find it: au where Pat and Julian are the living couple who move into the manor. more under the cut
They're married, but it's not out of love. It's partly for tax benefits, partly because Julian's desperate to save his image after a big scandal (nothing else he did seemed to work, so he thought 'fuck it, maybe if I come out and marry a bloke, one who's friendly, kind, and has a good reputation, I might be able to make myself look better in the public eye, or at the very least, maybe it'll overshadow the scandal), and partly because Pat wants to make it seem like he's moved on after Carol (even if it was with Julian bloody Fawcett of all folks). They move into Button Manor together, doing their best to convince everyone else they're definitely in love while having a pretty strained relationship. They're both convinced the other kind of hates them, and constantly reference the day everything blows over and they'll separate, because obviously this won't last.
The ghosts, dramas and crises slowly bring them together though, and they start to warm up to each other. They learn how to work as a proper unit, Julian makes an effort to be a better dad and a little bit kinder, Pat learns to stand up for himself, they bring out the best (and sometimes the worst) in each other, and by the end of it, they properly fall in love. They have a redo of their proposal (much to the chagrin of the ghosts, most of whom really wanted Pat to divorce Julian) and have an actual go at this whole 'happily married' thing
"can i get an autograph" "ooh have you got a pen?"
this exchange from the bone plot looks so boring and innocuous on text but i can ASSURE you this was flirting
patulian au where they inherit Button Manor but their biggest problem is not the ghosts haunting the place but their own relationship drama because, as far as Pat's concerned, they got married for tax benefits/to give Julian a better image after leaving the world of politics with a bang/to prove to their ex spouses that they're fine, actually, but oh dear, Pat caught feelings and is having a crisis over seemingly being stuck in a one-sided loveless marriage, while Julian is also having his own crisis as he realises he also has feelings for Pat but refuses to admit it. The ghosts are very confused by this whole arrangement and kinda wish they'd just talk it already
