Writing experiment no 11.
I have taken a copy of ‘Itchy Grumble’ by Paul Vickers. From this copy, I have randomly selected five words by flicking through the book. With each of these words, I will begin a new paragraph. The only rule is that I try to write a coherent piece of short fiction.
(1) Exposed
(2) Window
(3) was
(4) Dragon
(5) Throwing
Exposed to the waking world, James lay in the middle of the green. On three sides there were flats overlooking the recreation area and on the fourth a one way road. James was out cold. He had been drinking for seven days and six nights and his body had given up with exhaustion. He had only meant to try and escape the horrible news.
Window after window opened and curtains were drawn but no one had yet noticed the ragged drunk. In many ways, he had been invisible to the world for a long time anyhow.
Was there a cure for heartbreak, James had wondered. He couldn’t be sure but he did his very best to try and find it. He had taken many journeys and did all manner of drugs and alcohol on his way. He had even thought he would try having lots of sex but he could never find anyone who would assist him with this endeavor.
Dragon tattoos, religious taboos and wild crazies on the loose - erratic images flashed through James’ mind. He could not focus on one thing as he tried to forget and now, as a drug and booze fueled dream began to ware off, he felt the black Labrador sniff at his crotch.
Throwing stones passed James’ head, a young boy tried to distract his dog from the smelly man sprawled on the ground. The young boys thoughts and concern lay with his dog. James thought his low status was utterly profound.
