Bodies - Paul Calver
My muse and brother HARRY UZOKA’s physical body was laid to rest in London this weekend and his life was celebrated in a big way that I know had him smiling like mad. His spirit and impact are truly timeless. I know Harry’s sense of humor & outgoing, charismatic charm lit up any room he was in, bringing smiles to faces around the globe - but the side of him that grabbed me in a soul-lock when I first ran across his work in 2011 was the indescribable ability he had to effortlessly tap into a truth-filled stillness at the drop of a hat. It was a kind of depth that isn’t in the typical model’s bag of tricks. It is usually only seen in our greatest actors. This talent was barely tapped in his too-short career but It spoke volumes. I’ve wanted to edit this video using these clips and this music for many weeks now but I kept putting it off because I knew all the emotions it would bring to the surface. (and yeah, it did.) And even tho I think Harry would want the focus to be on celebrating the joy of life right now, I always knew it was this deeper, “old-soul” side of his presence that provided the root system that sustained the bountiful, bright outgrowth that brought us all so much sustenance. I wanted to try to highlight what I saw in this 18-year-old force-of-nature back in 2011 when I first saw these images. I’m proud to post this today as my 2nd “eleventh” memorial post. It’s on the tear-making side for sure, but I know he’d tell me “do as your energy takes you brother” hahaha… I hear you bro. Most of these images come from an experimental film shot by Paul Calver which accompanied a 2012 editorial for 125 magazine, additional footage comes from a 2015 film short by UK fashion filmmaker Tom Mitchell. My continuing thoughts and prayers are with Harry’s family and inner circle. Mad respect for the way you’ve been handling the outpouring that’s come your way. (I’ll continue sharing Harry’s work on the 11th of each month.) @HarryUzoka @edd_london #TuTchT #TuTchTIMAGING #ThruTuTchTEyes #HarryUzoka #virtuosocommunicationskillz #TuTchTMuse #RememberingHarry #PaulCalver #TomMitchell #AlanSilvestri #harryuzokaforever
