Paul: Particularly starting them off so you know they were sane people just like you and me. Then something happened to them and they became a different person. So I tried to put them into these circumstances that anyone could relate to. A yearning to belong. A yearning to be the way you used to be. A yearning to have your mother look you in the eyes with the smile that she used to before you got sick. Not look at you like you’re crazy. Showing their humanity instead of seeing them as a fractured soul that’s not human. That was important.
