tagged by the lovely @thedaythatwas with the word chain! i need to change up my sentence starters for real 😭 all from chapter 3 of my paxton/taunie fic i'm almost me again (she's almost you), which isn't even halfway done so not a ton of material to work with LOL
C - "Cuts healing okay?"/“Yeah,” Taunie assured him, holding up her hands. “They’re in the itchy stage now, which is annoying, but they’re healing. You? How’s your head?”
H - He didn’t know whether to be impressed at the smoothness of [the lie] or insulted that she honestly expected him to believe that.
A - A quick, knee-jerk spike of worry shot through him, but he schooled himself quickly. They were home. They were safe. He didn’t need to panic just because [Taunie] wasn’t in arm’s reach.
I - If they didn’t get any closer, it wouldn’t hurt so much when they parted ways (though she thought they’d part ways because she’d found her grandmother, not like this. Never like this).
N - “Nothing fazes you, does it?”/You do, Paxton wanted to tell her. You faze me./“Yeah, I’m kind of unshakable,” he said instead, rubbing at the back of his neck.
