This unique collection of keys, all possessed by the same family, was recently donated to The Phi Beta Kappa Society. Born in Millbury, Massachusetts, the Reverend Joseph Goffe began a familial legacy when he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at @Dartmouth College in 1791. Reverend Goffe’s great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Goffe Ticknor Crawford, was born in New Lebanon, New York, in 1878, and became a Phi Beta Kappa member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1903. Her husband, Clarence Cory (“C. C.”) Crawford, was also inducted in 1903 at the The University of Kansas. He went on to become a history instructor at the University of Missouri from 1907-1908, later returning to the University of Kansas in 1908, where he taught as an assistant professor of European history. C. C. and Elizabeth’s son, Richard H. Crawford, completed the family legacy in 1928, when he was inducted at the University of Kansas like his father. This impressive collection reflects the evolution of the Phi Beta Kappa key, as well as the persisting devotion to a lifelong love of learning. What's your Phi Beta Kappa Story?
