The buses:

A1 bus is my “monitor” bus, it feeds into my earphones.

A2 bus is currently reserved for my HDMI output

A3 bus is the “recording” bus; you can see it being selected on the “virtual cassette tape” there...

B2 bus is the “feed” bus; it feeds into Skype, Discord, whathaveyou.

As for the inputs:

Hardware 1 is where my microphone comes in. (When I finally have the money to buy a separate USB Mic, it would go into Hardware 3)

Hardware 2 is the ‘Virtual Cable’; which handles return sound from Skype, Discord, etc.

VAIO is handling sound from Windows, including game sounds (it appears in Windows Sound Device selection screen as “VoiceMeeter Input”). It is a 7.1 virtual device.

AUX is handling sound from media player apps, i.e., the ones who can choose which playback device to play to, such as: Media Player Classic, Foobar2000, etc. (It appears in Windows Sound Device as “VoiceMeeter Aux Input”). It is also a 7.1 virtual device.

Because A1 is feeding to my earphones, it is set at “Mix Down” using the “A” formula (see here for the difference between “A” formula and “B” formula)

My HDMI is not attached, so I don’t route anything to A2 at this moment. Had I, for instance, want to play a movie using MPC-HC and route it to my HDMI TV, I’d patch AUX input to the A2 bus. That way, only sound from MPC-HC will go to the HDMI TV; Windows dings & chimes (and my Skype conversation) won’t ever disturb anything on the TV (but still audible in my earphones).

At the same time, I can record any conversation in Skype / Discord without the conversation being disturbed by a movie playing or Windows dings & chimes, because only Skype/Discord & my mic goes into the A3 bus.

And finally, because only the B2 bus gets routed to Skype/Discord, I can play a music in the background via A1 or A2, and my conversation partner won’t hear that.
