I cast spell of 'imagine artist sullivan' upon you. and because I'm mean, I also cast 'now imagine the world ends and he can only draw the dead'.

extremely difficult to write a kink negotiation scene with a bunch of characters that don't have 'kink vocabulary'. you end up with stuff like this

to quote the content warning I'm drafting for this fic, 'These characters don’t know words like ‘subspace’ or ‘pain kink’, they just know that they live in an increasingly violent and lawless society where the weak are killed and the strong live.'

just two guys snoozing in the sun (very casual)

a moment of peace for these two before i blow up their lives again

"The sky is clear and hot and cloudless. Sullivan’s drowsing in the sun outside the cave, hat over his face for shade. He’s half-ignoring Cam, who’s creeping gradually closer like he thinks Sullivan won’t notice.

After an eternity, he gives up the pretense, grumbles a sigh and rolls over, thunks the back of his head unceremoniously onto Sullivan’s hip bone and wriggles until he’s comfortable.

“Ow,” Sullivan complains halfheartedly, pushing Cam’s temple with one hand. Cam resolutely ignores him, settling immediately back into place and focusing instead whatever it is that he’s doing with his hands. Fishing twine or something. He pinches his tongue between his teeth, squinting.

Though his mouth opens to push the point, Sullivan’s languid with the heat, and decides to pick his battles. What’s the harm, anyway?

He lies back, brushes his fingers over the dirt near Cam’s shoulder, and pretends it’s an accident that his knuckles graze across the sun-warm cloth. They lie there for some time, Cam working on whatever it is that he’s working on, Sullivan practicing stillness. He barely breathes, half-sure that a single movement will break the bubble of peace, summon someone to the cave with a problem for him to solve or an argument to settle."
