camped with Mac and Achilles one night in the Sierras and Mac says something along the lines of “oh, I attached myself to Achilles against his will because I’m afraid of being alone” and Achilles grunts something like “nngmf” and it was the funniest most honest thing I’d heard in a long time

Running through snow By the end of February in Maine I am sometimes tired of snow and slush. Taken in the Cascades in Washington at the very end of our hike on the PCT, his video is a good reminder of how much fun it can be to run down a steep slope of fresh powder.

Nick Roman This is why the trails draw us back... And if people have to ask why we do it, then they will never understand. Not too many people have felt ecstatic when they are so tired that they can barely stand up, not too many people have cried from joy on a regular basis. So many times on the trail, I felt so extremely frustrated that I could not share how I felt with my friends and family just so they could feel what it meant to be truly happy. Those who have experienced the trail know what it means to live life with a sense of Beauty. And then that Beauty is ingrained in them and makes it difficult to go back to life without that same romantic glory that carried us as we walked day in and day out. And to be surrounded by people who "get it" when no one else can--well, damn it, I would be crazy not to keep walkin'...
