Fort Henig, 2017. As excited as I am to get back to the routine, I'm starting to feel a little nostalgic for this unique time in our family's history. Portland hasn't seen a winter like this in almost 40 years, and I expect that the next time this happens, we'll be more prepared as a metro area to clear the roads and get back to business as usual. Being home bound has been crazy making, but also a good object lesson in slowing down, making do, and acceptance of things I cannot change. And we are lucky here at Fort Henig. We are not dependent upon school to feed our kids. We had our furnace serviced recently, we have snow gear so we can enjoy the cold, and we'll figure out how to even up the 9 (so far) days of lost pay. We didn't need to face icy roads or threat of job loss due to having to be home with our kids. We have Internet and blankets, a warm gas fireplace, electricity, and a Costco size box of cocoa. We are safe, we are blessed, we are the lucky ones. #pdxsnowpocalypse #wevegotasnowsituationhere
