More poofer pics, right after feeding em :)
Fish toime!
From top left to right to bottom, I've got 3 pea puffers (new, for my 5.5g tank), 3 emerald eye rasboras (restock/group increase for honey gourami tank), and 3 pygmy cories (restock/group increase for honey gourami tank). Got lucky enough to have found them at the LFS where I got the pea puffs, been looking for ages.

It's been a year since the pea puffs arrived! They're so big and chonky now but still adorable.
Here they are begging for food. Depending on where I'm standing, they will beg at different sides of the tank ;_; so cute!
I yearn for baby puffs but apparently they can take up to two years to reach a good breeding age. There may be a ways to go yet. I added moss and suss to the bottom of the tank, just in case they feel like dropping some eggs.
Snail snack time! Pea puffs love snails and luckily I get lots from my fish friends ^_^
The pea puffs are puffing!
Pea puffs are here!
We have six puffs in a 10 gal tall with 3 loaches. I've spent almost a year prepping for these babies and they're everything I dreamed of! During the year, I accumulated way too much live food (snails, shrimp, grindel worms, daphnia and baby brine shrimp) and ended up with 4 tanks lol.
I read soooo much conflicting info about what size tank the puffs need. Most places said you need 5 gallons for the first puff and 3 gallons for each additional puff but the 6 seem perfectly happy in the 10 gal together. Pea puffs are shoaling fish and easily bored. I think it helps to have buddies for entertainment and to spread out any aggression. I see them chasing each other but no nips in the first week.
The puffs are so cute and I love watching them float around! They immediately demolished the snail population in the tank. As soon as they were released, they started feasting on the tiny snails. Now there are no snails left. The large neocaridina seem fine and have survived every stand off with the puffs... so far. The puffs have lunged at the baby shrimp but I haven't seen them be successful. A pleasant surprise, the puffs don't care about the loaches at all and my squiggly friends still come out to hang around.
All in all, puffs are 10/10 and I love them.
Would pea puffers need a high filtration/low flow filter? I hear their messy, but they don't look like they'd be able to handle a heavy flow.
My only experience with pea puffs has been using HOB filters and those always have seemed to work well for me. I haven’t noticed any problems with the flow. Does anyone have different filters for their pea puff tanks that would like to add to this?(I’m excited by all the pea puff asks bc I love pea puffs so freaking much)
