what was the first fandom you ever got really invested in? also sorry if you get this same ask like 5 times your blog doesn't like me lol

but.... if we’re talking like first hyperfixation, either neopets or animorphs? if we’re talking actual fandom where i /participated/ with other people, bandom probably? specifically panic! bandom, bc my first internet friendships/community were on the panic! message boards

my absolute favorite teacher from high school (who was coincidentally also an English teacher) would always pass out notecards on the first day and tell us to write our preferred name, a few facts about ourselves, and also our correct pronouns if they were "different from what's on the roster". he would use those cards to call on people for the rest of the year so he wouldn't forget nicknames or pronouns and i feel like that's something geoff would do :)

i don’t think he’d need to back in 2014, but i think in 2020, it could definitely be helpful!! 

he definitely does a thing  - after awsten and the subsequent flood of kids coming to him for help/just to talk - where he asks the kids to write something down, anonymous or not, that they want him to know about them. he’ll repeat the exercise a couple times throughout the year so that if they thought of something else or they weren’t comfortable in the beginning of the year but they are in january or march or may, they can tell him then. 

at the start of school, he might get, “i’m nothing like my older brother” or “i have anxiety” or “i work a lot” or “nothing,” and toward the end of the year, he’ll start getting sweet ones like “i only liked catcher in the rye because of you” and “you’re my favorite teacher” and even “i love you, mr. w.”  

(of course there are other anonymous ones like “my mom is abusive” or “i haven’t read a single book all semester” or “sometimes i think about running away” but those were just like. examples of the contrast between august and when the kids are comfortable.)

aw man okay let’s try this again! i can’t remember exactly what i said in the ask that was Lost to the Void but i know it was something along the lines of aly appreciation because you deserve it!! i think it’s so cool that you’ve constructed such a complex universe with its own spinoffs that are so detailed that they have their own little fandom… i could not IMAGINE scrolling thru ao3 a year ago and clicking on something even remotely similar to, say, the foster au but now it’s... (1/2)

… one of my favorite things to read!! aside from the original story of course :) idk i guess i just think it’s incredible and i’m so glad you take the time to do this, thank you so much
