late im sorry sob, ★ sleeping
YOOO it’s alright im always 100% down to answer any ask meme at any time!
Tashak has always had difficulty sleeping. Her habit of internalising things coupled with the shit that she’s been through mean that she’s often plagued by nightmares, that only seem to get more colourful as the years go on.
So instead of trying to find out the cause of these nightmares (her not talking through the things that are bothering her), she just stays up. Being a workaholic, she would busy herself until she was too tired to keep her eyes open, which would hopefully lead to a deep, dreamless sleep.
And it did, it did, until she joined the Inquisition.
The Anchor and its connection to the Fade only made her nightmares worse. They became more vivid, the voices clearer and words more coherent. She began sleeping even less, and when she did, it would not be fitful. The people around her begin to notice, especially after she encountered the dark future in Redcliffe.
Cassandra would find her in the training grounds at the crack of dawn, the target at the other end of the field almost giving way under the sheer number of arrows she had fired through them. Bull found her asleep on one of the tavern benches one morning. Dorian would child her for borrowing more and more books from the library because he knew she hadn’t even touched the ones she had taken before.
At some point, though, she began to open up to them about her nightmares, especially since Cole was very vocal on her behalf.
(Trembling, trailing hands, skin melted off, muscle turned to ash and bone, shining white bone. They scream and scream but they have no mouths, how are they screaming? Why can I still hear them screaming?)
Once she began to trust her friends with her thoughts, actually began to talk through the fears and dark things that had happened to her, she realised that it was easier to sleep. That the nightmares were not as pervasive.
Also, sleeping beside Josephine, having somebody there beside her when she jolted awake at night, hands trembling and tears streaming down her face, was a lot better than sleeping alone.
