Peale's Peregrine by Tim Melling This is the largest and darkest of the many races of Peregrine Falcon that occur around the planet. Females can weigh up to 1.5kg which is about 200g heavier than European Peregrines. The smaller males weigh up to 1kg which is 250g heavier than European birds, so proportionately Peale's males are even larger. The race is supposedly non-migratory and occurs along the Pacific North-west along the southern coast of Alaska and out across the Aleutians. This looks like a first year bird, hatched the previous year. I took the photograph in Alaska's Prince William Sound. http://flic.kr/p/WiYsTj
