It's just, if she's a foil to Sherlock (which I think she is meant to be), it's the sort of thing he'd do - overestimate his own abilities and get into trouble because of it. I fully agree that has a lot of issues, but it made the most sense to me...

yeeeeeeaaaaaaahh sorta, but even if she is a foil to sherlock (which idk doesn't line up to me) sherlock always acts in accordance with the things he wants. so he makes silly mistakes, but none quite as silly as actually acting in direct opposition to his goals. i mean, even the cockiest person in the world can see which actions will have an IMMEDIATE negative effect.

like, the way sherlock fucks up, he walks into irene's house assuming she won't see through his disguise. she does, and he's made a mistake, but what he DIDN'T do was walk up to her house, pull out a megaphone, and yell for her to give back the blackmail pictures. what he also didn't do was track down his client and demand THEY give him the pictures, because that literally makes no sense.

mary's immediate goal is to keep sherlock from telling john. either she should shoot him right away, or she should threaten him to keep him in the room with her while she makes sure he won't tell. it is directly opposite her interests to threaten him to keep him away from her, because she's leaving him the opportunity to yell for john. it's also directly against her interests to fire her gun when she knows john is downstairs and wants him not to come upstairs.

like, this is not just arrogance. this is not her making a decision she thinks is right which then backfires. this is her making decisions with IMMEDIATE EFFECTS that will hurt her. and it makes no sense at all.

That would be kind of awesome, though we know she's fairly good at the sneakiness part since she managed to best even Sherlock when it came to getting into Magnussen's suite.

idk she came in through like the roof or something and knocked two people out rly hard when she was actually best friends with janine and should have been able to talk her way past. she also confronted magnussen at his office in london, when she knows full well that he keeps his blackmail material at appledore.

like, that just screams bad planning
