White Diamond isn’t very nice to gems who don’t listen

Many gems have performance tools instead of gem weapons- Like instruments!

The three Lapis's each have a instrument;

Quackity has a violin

Wilbur has a Guitar

Phil has a Lyra

Both pearls also have instruments!

Tommy has a Ukulele

Fundy has a Flute, as well as a Ribbon wand

Phil, being the only lapis of the three to have seen battle, used to play music for other gems who were training or battling, as a moral boost.

Tommy spent a long time alone at the Shell (Pearl manufacturing facility, a canon thing is su) and was allowed to practice his Uke anytime he wasn't cleaning the facility or showing a high ranking gem around the facility or showing off other pearls that "weren't defects".

Tommy can't sing/keep note, and is a little clumsy. Which is what makes him a "failure" of a pearl.

Techno just took him as his pearl for "practical" reasons, including:

- Techno didn't want to have to keep going back to the shell to get a pearl made to exact specifications.

- Techno didn't want to listen to lyrics/singing anyway, as it distracts him when he's training or reading, but likes the music Tommy played.

- Tommy is perfectly capable of doing the tasks Techno needs/was assigned a pearl for. And if Tommy is just 'sitting around doing nothing anyway.' it made the most sense to Techno to just take him on his first visit. Despite the Shell system insisting otherwise, one mention of the fact that Techno has some sway with Pink Diamond, due to being a favorite in the Coliseum of early Homeworld, the shell backed down at the idea of Techno contacting and 'bothering' PD with such a trivial matter.

How it would have been d!dream and p!tommy first met? Like how diamond!dream would react to see finally his "rival" pearl and how pearl!tommy would have reacted to see a diamond

in all honesty they're very first time they meet is so unbelievably uninteresting and formal, nothing more than a topaz's pearl (and the topaz himself) saluting their diamond on their new colony Now the first time they actually properly Interact is far more interesting. Techno is sparring with fireopal!Bad and fireopal!Sapnap, tommy enters the spectator box and soon after, pearl!Fundy enters, followed by Dream Initially all is quiet until Dream groans in boredom Fundy offers to entertain his diamond, but instead Dream turns to Technos pearl. "So, you're new. What, techno get you as a barter to get him off the battle field and onto my colony?" Tommy is just 🧍 Tommy's never been just. Spoken to by a gem anywhere near as high ranking as a Diamond Dream laughs at his nervousness, and tells him he's only teasing, and to lighten up a little. Tommy is very nervous around Dream, and Dream gets drunk off that power and everytime Techno goes off planet or is busy, Dream commands Tommy to come to him so he 'has someone to serve'
