         “Pearl, I know you can do this.”

    Rose’s voice was full of encouragement, her hands clenched into fists as she     watched the smaller gem, her smile reassuring. They, of course, had not been     sure if Pearl would be able to summon a weapon -- it was unprecedented, but..     for a split second, in the battlefield, in a moment of desperation, without a weapon,     Pearl had summoned.. something. Unfortunately, doing it again was proving     challenging. 

    “Just breath, focus on your gem, and do your best.”

a pearl? here? --- it wasn’t a common sight, in fact, it left rosie with a heavy sense of unease brewing inside of her, her fingers gripping tightly onto the bark of the tree she was ducked behind. she couldn’t see any other gems, and she was a little rusty on her gem etiquette after so many years, but.. surely a pearl should be with her owner? she couldn’t be alone. 

despite the pink diamond insignia on her uniform, rosie knew her cut of gem wouldn’t be treated kindly by homeworld gems, so she stepped back, intending to flee, but her foot slipped upon something wet, and her body fell out from underneath her as she tripped and landed on her front, one hand covering her gem protectively.

“She has quite the spirit...does she not?” So young, so curious. “At this crucial time, she requires a voice of reason.” Blue often took that role for herself; however, she couldn’t always spend her time on this blossoming colony, not when she had her own planets to attend to. It was why they relied upon her court to help guide their youngest Diamond to wisdom. “I trust her Pearl to provide that.”

                 “ --- I remember you. “ words muttered in mild interest,                  face otherwise barren of emotion ; blank slate. yes, she remembers her,                        the pixie-esque being that stood proud with an uptight air. a familiar face                        that had never shown great interest in the likes of kai --- not that she                        needed the glorified attention of another person. but, she speaks nonetheless,                        finding the chances odd that their strange paths would cross again.                        polar opposites of one another, though relating in the way their gazes                        stared questioningly ; either by confusion or annoyance with the other,                        they cannot say.                        metallic fingers fidget ( a replacement of flesh ), eyes narrowed.                      nothing has changed.

          there was her usual unintentional venom dripping from           her words. twas a habit she’d have to soon break if she           really wanted to show the others she was their ally. or,           as steven so often liked to put, their “friend”. a stretch.
