Remembering Dr. Pearse Lyons I had the privilege of working beside Dr. Pearse Lyons for almost 13 years. He was not just my boss or the person I supported, but also a friend, mentor and a man with a heart bigger than Texas. He loved his family. He was so proud of his son Mark, his daughter Aoife and his devotion to his wife Deirdre was something we all wish we had. He was a giving man who changed so many lives and he never wanted to make a big deal about it. He just wanted to do it quietly behind the scenes. No fuss. No fanfare. No headlines. We had great mutual respect for each other. Did we always agree with each other? Not always, but we always understood and supported each other? He was a man with huge ideas, and sometimes those ideas were a bit out there, but his passion for achieving them made all of us feel just as passionate. His enthusiasm was simply contagious. I called him the Energizer Bunny x 5. He had more energy than someone half his age. Boundless energy that was always channeled into making other people’s lives better. He was always about making a difference in people’s lives, and then encouraging us all to make our own unique differences as together we set about building a better world. He encouraged his employees to have bigger dreams for themselves than he had for them and would always say, “Why should my dreams for you be bigger than the dreams you have for yourself?” My life has changed both personally and professionally. He opened my eyes to possibilities that I never thought existed. He challenged me to step outside of my comfort zone more times than I can count and because of that I am the wife and mother that I am today. He will always be in my heart, and he will be missed dearly.
