" Oh, isn't this amazing? It's my favorite part because you'll see...”
I want so much more than this provincial life.

🎶Little town, it's a quiet village 🎶
For the bad at dating prompts, Spinner!Rumple, we're supposed to be on blind dates with separate people but sat at the wrong table getting our hopes up.
What in all the realms was he doing? He was making a fool of himself is what he was doing. However, he really couldn’t afford not to endure it. The spinner had to go three towns over to find a match maker willing to work with him, and another town over yet to meet at the place they had agreed upon. It had taken some bartering to acquire clothing that didn’t look as though it had been mended a dozen times over. He had far too much invested in this already.
Still there must have been something wrong.
The beauty sitting across from him now was far too good for the likes of him. Not only was she half his age, but she had actually smiled at him when their eyes met from across the tavern. Both of them had looked as though they were waiting for someone, so there was no reason to doubt she had been the one he’d been matched with. Still, she was enchanting. Eyes blue as the sea and hair that looked as soft as a lamb’s wool. Surely she couldn’t have been for him. This Belle, as she was named, was too good for any man.
“You came too far! I would have met in the middle if I had known you came all the way from the Frontlands.”
Rumpelstiltskin shook his head. “It’s no bother. I didn’t mind.”
“I’ve never been to the Frontlands. My father and I love just outside of Avonlea. We grow flowers.”
“I’m a spinner.”
“I’ve always wanted to learn to spin. I don’t have a talent for it, though. My mother did…”
Her eyes grew dark and far away, and Rumpelstiltskin suddenly felt the need to change the subject. Luckily, their food arrived, hot and on time to his surprise, and this seemed to brighten her.
“I have a son.” He blurted suddenly, using his mead to mask his embarrassment. Baelfire was the whole reason he was here. The boy needed a mother… “He, uh…He enjoys the wild flowers that grow in our field a great deal.”
Belle smiled, nibbling on her stew as she giggled. “He sounds like me when I was a child. I was always getting into too many things. Now I only help my father and embroider.”
“You need strong thread for that. But thin also. It’s rather a challenge to make as you have to keep the thread very stiff as you spin it, but not so stiff as to break it. And the ideal wool is…” He trailed off, downing more of his mead as he realized he’d gone off. “Sorry.”
Belle laughed this time. “No I don’t mind. I’ve read about spinning and the correct wheels and wools to use. It was all rather boring, really.” Her cheeks reddened as she added quickly “But I’m sure it’s much more interesting in practice!”
This time it was Rumpelstiltskin that laughed. A real, true laugh. Perhaps, if the stars had aligned, there was more reason to get his hopes up after all. Especially if Belle wanted to see The Fromtlands.
“I’m was rather afraid this had been a mistake.” Belle confessed, making Rumpelstiltskin go cold. “You see, it was my father who insisted on the match maker but…I’m quite enjoying this.”
“M-me too.” He said with a smile.
The two began another conversation about thread and embroidery, oblivious to the other odd couple watching them from the other side of the tavern.
“Do you think they realized they say at the wrong table?” The woman asked the young man.
He only chuckled, shaking his head. “I doubt it. Still, it’s going well I think. So at the very least there’s that.”
“Yes, you’re right. There is that.”
