Paraffin wax is often seen as an old fashioned treatment and overlooked within the salon and salon services, but it has many beneficial properties and is an especially effective treatment for both hands and feet during the winter months.
Paraffin wax is a white, odourless wax that has the ability to insulate and maintain a temperature - although, it is now possible to get scented paraffin wax, or waxes with added ingredients and essential oils. Within the beauty industry we use paraffin wax as part of a more deluxe or luxury manicure or pedicure treatment, incorporating it within our standard routine – usually after the massage has taken place. The paraffin wax is applied with a brush to the hand, or foot, and a clear bag is placed over the wax whilst it sets. The wax would be left on for around 10 minutes with the heat penetrating the skin increasing the circulation and pushing the remaining massage cream deeper into the skin making it more moisturising and nourishing.
This is particularly effective on the feet as most people suffer with dry skin on their feet, or even quite hard skin on their heels – this is a perfect treatment for that because of its ability to soften, you may need a course of treatment depending upon how dry or hard your skin is. During the winter months, when the temperature drops outside and the heating goes on it is a perfect treatment for the hands to keep the skin soft and stop them from becoming dry and cracked. It is also immensely beneficial if you suffer with arthritis, rheumatism or joint discomfort because the heat will help to soothe the pain, and reduce inflammation.
Other benefits to Paraffin Wax include:
· Increases Circulation Bringing More Oxygen & Nutrients To The Surface Of The Skin Improving The Appearance Of The Skin
It is a fabulous addition if you suffer from any of the following conditions:
Once applied the wax will start to cool and solidify, to remove the wax the beauty therapist will first remove the bag and then peel the wax away leaving very soft and radiant skin. Nails will still be polished after (if you require) and the treatment should be repeated regularly depending upon how dry your skin is. Ideally during the winter months you would repeat this treatment at least monthly to keep the skin moisturised and stop it from drying. So if dry skin is a problem for you during the winter months, or anytime of year for that matter, try a paraffin wax treatment – I assure you, you won’t be disappointed!
