A road trip with your boyfriend to clear your mind after a long week seemed like a great idea. Pedro was driving while you were belting out a Queen song like there was no tomorrow.
“Open the glove compartment,” Pedro interrupted your show.
“What?” you asked baffled, turning the volume down.
“Open the glove compartment,” he said quickly glancing at you and readjusting his hands on the steering wheel.
Leaning forward, you opened the glove compartment and started rummaging, “What am I looking for, exac–,” something fell at your feet.
Blindly, you were trying to get a grip on whatever had fallen. You felt something velvety and picked it up. “What–,” you left your mouth opened, frowned and looked at Pedro. “Is this what I think it is?“
“Oh, I don’t know. You should open it to see if it is what you think it is,” he said smirking, not looking at you.
You couldn’t believe what was happening. You hadn’t been dating for long but you knew you wanted to spend the rest of your life waking up next to him, sharing breakfast in bed, staying in on a rainy day and watch movies, and even though you had talked about marriage you weren’t expecting this at all.
You inhaled and contained your breath as you opened the small box. As expected, a ring lay inside. A moment passed were the only thing that could be heard was the rain against the car’s roof.
You closed the box suddenly. “Fuck, Pedro, I can’t believe this,” a sigh left your lips as you leaned back and looked up.
“Is– is it a good ‘I can’t believe this’ or a bad ‘I can’t believe this’?” he asked with a nervous laugh.
“I–,” you looked down at the closed box that contained such an important question. “Check the sun visor,” you said shaking your head, still looking at the box.
“The sun visor?” Pedro said while reaching up, eyes fixed on the road. As he opened it something fell and hit his right thigh, landing in-between his legs. He took it and started inspecting it with his touch. As he figured out what it was, he stopped the car next to the road.
“This is unbelievable,” he said chuckling.
You looked at him with a beaming smile and started chuckling too.
“I’m a bit mad because you beat me to it but happy because I guess we’re in the same page then, huh?” you joked, punching his side with your elbow.
“Give me your hand,” Pedro said taking the box from you. He opened it and took the ring, gently placing it on your ring finger. You took his ring and did the same, holding each other’s hands.
“Now this trip has become part one of the honeymoon,” Pedro said while starting the car.
“And what could we do for part two?” you asked turning the volume up.
“Karaoke,” Pedro teased.
“Very funny,” you said rolling your eyes and starting to sing along to Queen again.
