I see @battlecrazed-axe-mage peeps wine and raise them one Dr Peeper!
Im coming to the source to find out if anyone has the recipe for peeps wine laying around
I know its just yeast, peeps, and time but is there more to it or just shove them bitches in a bottle and pray?
And if you *must* ask its to torment my family during the holiday season as I disappear to another country for a few weeks to hang out with beastie
what should I add to my next mead?? (Fucked up version)
peeps
Vanilla extract
Cadbury mini eggs (the trans ones)
twizzlers
Dr Pepper peeps
Use Root Beer instead of water
use Fanta orange instead of water
Sorry for the silence, it's been a busy time here (but not with the peep wine. I'm checking on them today but last week we took readings and they're fermenting! Just very low ethanol numbers right now. But that makes sense as it was only a week out from the start)
I was asked for the recipe for this wild experiment. Here's what I have so far. Please note that we have done the 186 peeps but also 164 peeps and our "wild card" batch of ???? Peeps. 186 is the proper amount to get a 1.1 specific gravity according to a calculator online. We didn't have enough peeps for two proper batches as we did the calculations in the lab. Who would have thought 350 peeps wouldn't be enough?? 😂
😂😂 the recipe is not entirely precise but:
Peep Wine Recipe (experimental)
Ingrédients:
4.5L water
186 peeps
Half-ish a packet of sparkling wine yeast (or other high-ethanol-tolerance yeast)
Melt the peeps in a pot with some of the water. DO NOT HEAT ABOVE 160°F. Heating just to like, 40°C is fine (yes those are two different units. I am Canadian and someone gave me a F temp but we used C to monitor)
You just want to melt the peeps to a point you can mix them with the yeast without lumps and you can put them in the fermenting container easily.
It will foam A LOT. Most of this foam will re-liquify but some will just end up staying as foam because of the gelatin (we assume)
Put the yeast in warm (30-40C) water according to the directions.
After the melted peeps have cooled a bit, and the foam hopefully has gone down, pour into the container. Most will re-liquify as I stated above. Add the remaining water to fill up to 4.5L
Pour in the yeast when the peeps are cool enough, make sure it gets into the main liquid peep mixture, not just on the foam.
Seal the container and have an air lock on it.
Please note that if the foam is too high it will be pushed out into the airlock. If it gets out of the airlock, it will solidify on the air lock, closing and pressurising the container and that's not great lmao. Foam will get everywhere when you open it. You can probably guess how I know this. Yeah...
As for how long to keep it fermenting... That's what we're gonna find out 😂😂
Good luck and happy peepening!
(Bonus if you can decipher my scribbled notes. Please note that we thought we had 360 peeps but it was actually 350)
On tuesday, I will have a hydrometer. And then I will be able to begin a new phase of personal insanity. I will be making monster peeps wine.
The next Redneck Brewing experiment in line!
It's like the infamous Peeps Wine, only more Swedish. (Plus more...and even more.)
Also, involving fewer undissolved eyes and less lurid color unless I add in some sort of food coloring myself. I did consider basically just using them more or less as a sugar supplement in some nice juice, but nah that felt like cheating. We're going 100% marshmallow rabbit here.
Yes, I actually ordered a kilo box of these poor bunnies mostly to do terrible things to them with hot water and yeast. Getting started a bit late, but hey. I really doubt longer aging would improve the results that much. 😅 The plastic tub should come in handy, at any rate.
These are not bad at all just as candy. I purposely chose the Franssons over a bigger brand because these don't list any vegetable oil or carnauba wax in the ingredients. Just a shit-ton of sugary stuff, gelatine, and a little sorbitol.
They also don't have any fruity flavor like the Cloetta are supposed to, just a more straightforward marshmallowy taste. This may be for the better or worse; we'll see soon enough, once I get my act together to actually mix it up later!
I’m making the cursed wine
I saw the peeps wine post going around and I was compelled to try it. I may need to get more yeast tho, because mine might be dead, and I’m going to try and find the marshmallows we have stashed somewhere to add some bulk to it. Besides that I’m on my way.
I don’t even drink wine. I’m just chaotic.
