found out that my local duck place has PELICANS?!? and nobody thought to let me know personally like??? what is the point of advertising if not to tell me there's a pelican in my area? i had to find out by ACCIDENT just looking through the trees at the duck place and HANG ON IS THAT A BLOODY PELICAN?!?!? yes. yes it is. they've been there for three years? and not one poster? not one leaflet through the door? PLEASE tell me if there are pelicans around its the only acceptable form of advertising

It's crazy that a year ago I was watching Acapelicans videos on YouTube and thinking they were all so cool and funny and talented and falling kind of in love with them (watching a bunch of white girls sing "Down" gives me a lot of feelings apparently), and now they're all real, amazing people who are part of my life.

I've said it before and I will definitely say it again: the Acapelicans are the greatest people I have met here. I cannot imagine sweeter, smarter, cooler ladies anywhere on this campus, and being one of them feels so good.

Tomorrow night is our first official a cappella event (study break, wherein five of our a cappella groups gather under the library ramp and sing a few songs apiece as a middle-of-midterms-week spirit-lifter) and I'm so excited and after rehearsal tonight I took an extra-circuitous route back to East and walked in the rain for a while and my paper that's due Friday? Finished it Sunday.

I felt adrift and homesick and despairing all afternoon, but watching Kimya Dawson be honest and funny and lovely soothed my soul a whole lot, as did eating the best oatmeal raisin cookie of my entire life and then singing Java Jive and The Chain and having a jam session in the dark with the Pelicans. I know I have a lot to be grateful for here, and thinking about the past and being afraid of a million things won't get me anywhere good. One day at at time, I guess. I missed you all today.

So excited to be an Acapelican - or just a Pelican, or Peli, as we adorably refer to ourselves. Just like... oh my god. Nicest coolest sweetest group of girls I've ever seen, with five freshman (baby Pelis!) including me. I'm in love with them a little.
