I love Penny and Amber so much. What if Penny’s one and only superpower was the ability to conduct heat and energy, like copper? An ability that would only be useful with the help of her rival.

Let’s take a small break to acknowledge this comic’s roots: I made this when I was around 14 years old in 2012. It was one of the first times I ever tried using Ignitous Characters in a comic format. Up until this point, Penny and Amber (who we currently know as “Amita”) had only ever had violent interactions, but since Penny’s little sibling is Amber’s closest friend, I thought it would be fun to explore how they’d interact when forced to work together.

I was working on the second page when I realized I totally ship it. So it progressively became gayer and gayer, until Amber became a literal flaming lesbian and their ship started literally sailing. It was at that point that I first realized I might not be completely straight. That’s right, this comic was so gay it made me realize I was in an invisible closet the entire goddamn time.

And here I am today, a pansexual woman with an entire collection of characters that are DEFINITELY not straight. I’m so proud.

Penny: Hello?

Amber: Hello, Penny.

Penny: Amber?

Amber: I’m sure you noticed your brother’s-

Penny: THAT’S IT!

Penny: THE FUDGE DID YOU DO WITH MY BRO, ASSHAT?

Amber: *sigh* I didn’t do anything to your brother, Copper Pence. However, I fear for his safety from others.

Amber: I think that someone took him... to the island.

*dialtone* Amber: Hello? Penny?

SLAM! Penny: They. Did. WHAT?

Amber: Gah!

Amber: Hey, c-calm down, Penny. I am sure that your brother is -

Amber: Wait, how did you get here?

Penny: That doesn’t MATTER. What MATTERS is that you and I are going to take a boat to the island, and we are going to break that idiot out of that hellhole, TOGETHER. Do I make myself CLEAR?

Amber: Clear as thine crystal eyes, my little copper pence.

Penny: Sh-Shut UP. We’ve got to save Dimi, so there’s no time for your - temptress act.

Amber: Who says it’s an act? Maybe I’m just that attractive.

Penny: Somehow, I doubt it.

Penny: Enough Dilly-Dallying, let’s go.

Amber: Fine.

Amber: Wait, are you seriously going to wear THAT to a MISSION?

Penny: And WHAT, exactly, is WRONG with my outfit, Miss Useless Crop-top?

Amber: Oh nothing... If you’re Six.

Penny:

Penny: right, then. You take the wheel. I’ll go change.

Later...

Penny: I’m done!

Amber: Well, it’s about...

Amber: ...Time?

Penny:(sarcastically) Is this attire suitable for battle?

Amber: Um. I’m. Uh... yes. That’s... where did you... Collar...

Amber: Ugh. Y’know what, it’s fine. Just... go upstairs and work the helm. We’ll get to the water soon.

Penny: Hey, what’s up with your hair?

Amber: DON’T TOUCH IT!!!

Penny: Alright. Sheesh.

Amber: mumble grumble

Amber: Phew. Thank Goodness she made this thing fireproof.

I made a couple versions of this bit when I lost photoshop - I was still uncertain how I wanted this to go down. And I was... REALLY uncertain about the dialogue. Like. Penny. I know you’re only like, 12 here, but come on. And are we using ambiguous pronouns or not??? Why is Amy calling “Denise” a “him,” that makes no sense???? Especially since Penny used “baby sib” instead of “brother”??? Even though she doesn’t know yet??? WHAT IS WRITING.

Does anybody else ever get that feel when you go on tumblr and search the ship tag for one of your otps, before realizing that the ship doesn't have a fandom yet because it's just two of your ocs that are so old you subconsciously forgot you were the one that created them?
