of all the people that dr. jekyll had expected --- or hoped --- to see walking into the institute, pendleton smith was not high on the list. in hindsight, he supposed, he SHOULD have expected it, given the man’s history with vault 111 and the fact that the institute’s research tied so heavily in cryogenics, but for some reason, unfortunately, he’d never fully made the connection.
meeting up with the man here, in full view of everyone else in this division, was not precisely something henry was keen on doing. pendleton, for all his virtues, didn’t exactly have a wonderful grasp of discretion; if they met up here, henry was sure that pendleton would shout right across the room to him, which, for a dozen reasons, could end catastrophically. with an alacrity that was almost comical, he gathered up his files on the desk, shoved them into his arms, and scrambled into the confines of his private office.
