Pendraig milnerae and Artoria Pendragon ruler. A namesake duo for 'chief dragon'
+Pendraig only version
Pendraig milnerae Spiekman et al., 2021 (new genus and species)
(Hips and vertebrae of Pendraig milnerae, from Spiekman et al., 2021)
Meaning of name: Pendraig = chief dragon [also used figuratively to mean “chief warrior”]; milnerae = for Angela Milner [British paleontologist who passed away earlier in 2021]
Age: Late Triassic (more precise age uncertain, but within the Norian–Rhaetian)
Where found: Pant-y-ffynnon Quarry, Vale of Glamorgan, U.K.
How much is known: Partial skeleton including part of the hip girdle, several vertebrae, and a femur (thigh bone). An isolated back vertebra and a less complete hip girdle have also been assigned to this taxon.
Notes: Pendraig was a coelophysoid, a group of lightly-built early theropods. It is the oldest theropod known from the United Kingdom. Pendraig was small for a coelophysoid, perhaps around the size of a chicken. Based on comparisons to other coelophysoids with more completely known growth series, the type specimen of Pendraig probably had not finished growing when it died, but it is also unlikely that it would have gotten much larger.
It is possible that the small size of Pendraig evolved as a result of it having lived in an island environment, as a dramatic decrease in the body size of island populations (known as insular dwarfism) is a well-documented phenomenon in some groups of animals. However, there were other coelophysoids of similar body size (such as Procompsognathus) that are known from continental environments. Whether Pendraig represents a true example of an island dwarf is therefore unclear at present.

Pendraig

It's Saint David's Day, and since I've not drawn anything in a while here's a Welsh dinosaur, Pendraig milneri, in the style of the Welsh flag. As far as we know dinosaurs didn't have huge arrow-shaped tongues...so I improvised :P
Pendraig the chief dragon.
...also probably the most FGO-ish name in scientific name world.
Here’s a more hypothetical sketch of the Late Triassic theropod, Pendraig hanging out on a tree branch.
@pendraig !!
