your gifs are GORGEOUS - if you don't mind, could you make a tutorial explaining how you achieved the gradients you used for steve, tony, and thor in the jandy nelson gifset? thank you sm <3
Thank you so much!! <3
And sure I can! :) It was quite simple actually so I don’t know how extensive this tutorial needs to be but I guess I can tell you the settings I used.
So here’s how I went from this:
To this:
And how I colored the other gifs in this gifset.
I did the coloring with the following layers
For Steve:
the basics: brightness/contrast // levels // vibrance // selective color to bring out the yellows and blacks
a second brightness/contrast
gradient map set to overlay with 63% opacity (gradient settings are #ffffff at 0% and #8078b3 at 100%)
a second levels
a gradient fill layer set to hard light with 100% opacity (gradient settings are #a08657 at 0% , #b28f5a at 25% , #bc9359 at 46% , #cbb785 at 67% and #edebbe at 100%, style linear, angle -30,96º)
For Tony:
the basics: brightness/contrast // levels // vibrance // selective color to bring out the blacks
a second levels
a gradient fill set to hard light with 100% opacity (gradient settings are #1c5a85 at 0% and #3093c7 at 100%, style linear, angle -113,2º)
a second gradient fill set to hard light with 100% opacity (gradient settings are #ef4f4f at 0% and #feeeaa at 100%, style linear, angle -113,2º)
For Thor:
the basics: brightness/contrast, levels, vibrance
selective color to bring out the blues and magentas for a purple hue and the blacks
gradient map set to overlay with 100% opacity (gradient settings are #ffffff at 0% and #8078b3 at 100%)
a second levels
a gradient fill layer set to hard light with 100% opacity (gradient settings are #fae5b1 at 0% , #f4beb2 at 25% , #ee95ac at 50% , #b67dad at 75% and #846aaf at 100%, style linear, angle -113,2º)
For a gradient map just click LAYER >> NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER >> GRADIENT MAP
For a gradient fill layer click LAYER >> NEW FILL LAYER >> GRADIENT
I’ll explain now how to do one of the gradients in case you don’t know how to and then you can do the rest with the settings I wrote above the same way :) (I used gradients I found somewhere years ago so these settings aren’t mine, but I looked for 2 hours and couldn’t find the original :( )
Ok so for the gradient fill layer that I used on the steve gif, click the gradient fill option and this window shows up:
Click ok with these settings.
Then you’ll see this:
To create your own gradient just double click right on top of the color bar and it’ll take you here:
Double click the button I circled in red and it’ll take you here:
The space circled in red is where you add your color from the settings I wrote above. Since this is the first color you need to write there the code for location 0%. Click ok.
Now you have your first color at location 0% like this:
Now for the location 100% color just click the button circled in red here:
Add the color code the same way you did with location 0% but for location 100% this time and you should have this:
To add colors in the positions along the middle just click once along the color bar when your mouse turns into a hand and a third button will appear:
Now double click the button circled in red and add the color at location 25%. Repeat the process for the other positions!
It’ll end up looking like this:
Now notice that I circled in red that button with the white color. As you can see the gradient is transparent, that’s because opacity at the end of the gradient is at 0%. We don’t want that with this particular coloring so double click that white button and change opacity to 100% like this:
Your gradient is ready so click ok. Now just play with the angle and choose the one that you think looks best, it really depends on the gif and on the gradient:
Click ok. To change the layer settings just double click the gradient fill layer and change the blend mode. I used hard light here because I thought it looked the best but you can try all of the modes out and choose your favorite.
Now repeat the process for the other gradients. The settings for the gradient map look a little different than for the gradient fill, there’s no angle to change, but you make the gradient the same way, just double click the color bar!
I’m not sure this is helpful or what you were looking for but I hope so haha let me know if you have any questions!
⭐️ uncertainty of the law? it’s one of my all-time favorite fics ⭐️
Good thing, because Bucky barrels across the lobby and over to Steve, enveloping him in a bone crushing hug. For a moment, Steve is stunned, but then he hugs Bucky back. “Steve,” Bucky says, quiet and reverent, and then he pulls away. “You not some kind of desert mirage? Not a trick of my sad, tired eyes?”
“Pretty sure I’m real,” Steve says, chuckling.
And then Bucky is pulling away for real this time, but grabbing Steve’s hand and dragging him to a little nook near the closed newsstand in the lobby. “Glad you’re here,” he says before kissing Steve, open-mouthed and hot. His hand slips down to Steve’s ass, and he gives it a possessive squeeze. “Missed you,” he says against Steve’s lips. “Missed you so much.”
Knowing he should pull away, and introduce him to Natasha, Steve lets himself follow Bucky’s lead, opening his mouth and giving Bucky’s hips a squeeze. He slides a knee between Bucky’s legs and nips at his bottom lip. Bucky makes a little desperate noise from the back of his throat and God, how does Steve go a day, let alone three weeks without this man?
About to ask Bucky if he wants to take this to the lobby restroom, Bucky pulls away suddenly, going rigid, hand still on Steve’s ass. Because he’s a dumbass, Steve ignores it and kisses at Bucky’s jaw, sliding his arms to the small of Bucky’s back, trying to pull him back in. “Steve,” Bucky says, half-elbowing Steve in the side. “This is your friend Natasha, isn’t it?”
Shit.
Uncertainty of the Law
So, I have mixed feelings about this fic. It was supposed to be like... a 100k behemoth (though I’ve never written anything that long). Pierce was supposed to frame Bucky for fraud and Bucky was supposed to go to jail and be represented by Fury and there was supposed to be a lot of legal stuff... and then I realized I didn’t want to write any of that (or do any of that research) and let it sit for two years in my WIP folder. But then I looked at it again, was like, hey! This is kind of cute. So I slapped on an ending and gave it a quick edit, but I look at it and see a lot of mistakes.
BUT. There are also some fun moments in the fic! I particularly like this scene. Minus the first scene, this was like... the scene that was in my head while I wrote the fic. It’s sort of based on this building that my mom worked in when I was little and there was the little shop on the side of the lobby with candy for sale where we’d go when I went to work with her and we needed a treat.
I have a thing for lobbies of skyscrapers. There’s something really cold and impersonal about them, so it seemed like a fun place for a Sexy Encounter (even when one is overworked and smelly).
hey! if it's not too much trouble, could you make a giffing/coloring tutorial? bc your gifs are so distinctive and well-colored and frankly amazing - thank you so much!
oh my god, okay. first of all, thank you so much for even liking my gifs enough to want a tutorial in the first place?? that’s just. wow. secondly, i’m sorry, but i’ve never made a tutorial before so this is gonna be a little rough and probably more along the lines of links to other tutorials rather than a straightforward tutorial of my own.
i use photoshop cc 2018, and i pay for it, so unfortunately i don’t have a download link. i download interviews from youtube or other sites using extensions in chrome, and i download movies from different torrent sites. (just privately message me if you want more info on that.) should any of the videos need to be converted (like from .mkv to .mp4), i use wondershare video converter. and as for making clips from videos, i use quicktime.
for everything that follows (as well as things previously mentioned in case you don’t have the programs i named or just need something more helpful), i’m going to link to some other tutorials that’ll undoubtedly be able to help you more. (note: these are all tutorials i’ve used in some way.)

when it comes to my coloring specifically—
this is an example of what my adjustment layers look like on my gifs, but it always varies depending on what scene i’m gifing. sometimes i’ll have less (or more) selective colors, sometimes i’ll have a vibrance layer at the end, sometimes i’ll throw in a gradient to help make certain colors pop more.
psds could be your best friend. i personally don’t use them much because i like experimenting with colors for each individual gifset, but sometimes.. they can save you a lot of time and energy lmao. i’ll link to some below.

how to use actions
this is all over the place and i’m sorry for that, but i hope i was able to help you even a little. also feel free to send me another ask if you ever want to know about a particular gifset of mine because that’ll allow me to (hopefully) be more specific. (or if you have any further questions in general! i’d be happy to clarify something. you’re more than welcome to use the tumblr messenger to ask me questions, too.)
above all, i encourage you to seek out more tutorials because that’s the only way i learned to do anything. tutorial after tutorial after tutorial. i’ve been making gifs for about three years but i’m learning new things all the time. and if you see gifs out there with colorings you’re amazed by, message the original poster to see if they’ll share the psd(s)! from what i’ve seen, editors are pretty open to sharing their colorings as long as you’re respectful about using them. :)
your gifs are literally some of the best in the marvel fandom 1000/10 what is ur secret
sandhya, you know there’s no secret lmao. i sharpen at .3/500 with more accurate checked, and i use files over 18gb. i think the latter is why it’s kinda sorta clear.
and don’t even talk about my gifs when your coloring, pastels, and generally amazing gifs make me sob in envy.
