intactivist vindication moment
A BITTER and ongoing legal battle over the decision to circumcise of a four-year-old boy has sparked a heated debate in the US and left the mother languishing in prison.
This mother is fighting for her son’s bodily autonomy, her son has said he does not want it and yet the judge in this case seems to openly mock the idea that a child should have a say when it comes to their own genitals. The judge referenced that you don’t ask kids before their tonsils get taken out, well last I checked tonsillectomies were being performed less and less and only being done when deemed medically necessary. So the same care should be given to a circumcision, which in this case is not medically necessary.
I have my issues with circumcision, and totally understand why people dislike it, but is it strange that I do not regret mine? Maybe since it's all I've ever known and had, but it is part of who I am, I guess like any scar. That said, I do not know if I'd wish to have it done to my own child. Probably not, though. It does not feel right to make that decision for them.
It’s not strange to not regret yours. You feel no downside from yours, you’ve almost always been that way and it’s normal to you.
Just because people view it as an act of violation does not mean that you need to force yourself to feel violated. If someone does they they deserve support, but if not then I hope they will consider the research before doing it to their own child.
I used to be “meh” about the topic but now I am staunchly anti circumcision. Although I do not have any children, nor do I intend to have any, I would not consider a circumcision unless it was medically necessary.
A lot of that is because of the dangers, but also because of what you said. It doesn’t feel right to make decisions about someone else’s body like that.
Penile Circumcision
thelightningcount said: I don’t get the issue of the circumcision. Its not like their going to miss it. If anything it saves you a step when taking a shower. Its not mentally scaring or anything so its not really an issue.
Let's talk about "male" circumcision!
What does the foreskin do? Well, it provides a lot of extra stimulation during sex. It keeps the head of the penis moist and lubricated. It slides back and forth during penetrative sex, and many people say that being penetrated by an intact penis is less painful than one that is cut. The head is more sensitive in intact people than it is in cut people where the head is constantly exposed. And basically, the head of the penis on a person who's been circumcised is less sensitive and more "deadened" compared to an uncircumcised person.
If you imagine your feet, most Americans keep shoes on them. If you step on rocks, it hurts! But you can go barefoot and get callouses on your feet. Then, walking on rocks doesn't hurt so much. That's sort of what the foreskin is. It protects the sensitive head of the penis.
There is no medical reason to circumcise. An intact penis is not dirtier than a cut one.
I'm wondering since you touch on women's health and reproduction issues (I agree mostly with your views btw) what you view is on male circumcision?
I believe that infant circumcision is wrong, because your baby can’t consent to having their foreskin cut off and foreskins aren’t a danger to the baby’s health or anything so they’re completely unnecessary to remove without consent. If an adult male wants to get circumcised I see no issues with it
