Hiatus-ish

Well, my yearly time away from the internet world is fast approaching (July 28th - August 13). As such, pre-Pennsic projects and other obligations have taken most of my time. If I don’t get a chance to get back on here much before Pennsic, this is my waving and saying “see you in mid-August”. Those of you who have requested specific Pennsic pictures, I will do my best and you will either get them from nagasani or on here when I get back. @books-and-colours tagging you so that I remember to bring you class notes for 16th century and earlier Japanese cooking practices. @sengokugenkigirl tagging you because you are interested in medieval and ren things too.

54 Days Until We Leave for Pennsic!

Yiiiikes, I feel like there’s still way too much to do in that time. BF still needs more garb (but not too much more), and we need to buy a new camp bed and probably a solar shower.

I know people bring solar showers, because we used the kingdom showers last time, but I wasn’t able to find anything about setting up personal ones on the website. If anyone knows rules or prohibitions about personal shower set-ups, please let me know? And we need a roof rack for the car, so that the tent will fit, but at least we don’t have to buy/make a tent, as my old canvas one is in lovely shape. Might need an additional tent next year, though, since my little bro will be 18 by then, and he and a friend want to come with. :} So the short list looks like:

1. Shower 2. Roof Rack 3. Camp Bed 4. Finish the Garb 5. New Ground Cloth for Tent? (I think?? last time we used a plastic tarp and a rug I believe...) Which really, isn’t all that much work, just a fair chunk of money. Gotta order more fabric for garb, too, so there’s that wait-time to worry about, I guess. How’s everyone else’s Pennsic Prep going?

Pennsic Prep Stuff IDK

Got boyfriend’s next tunic for pennsic all cut out last night, so that feels like progress. Actually, finished a tunic last night, too.

Idk, I’m trying to get him more involved in picking out his clothes mostly because I am SICK TO DEATH of making boring ass tunics over and over again. I hardly measure anymore, just cut a few rectangles and triangles and hope for the best.

...ok, i’m exaggerating. But only a little.

Like, I love the early period for its simplicity and elegance, and the easy mix-and-match options that really help extend a wardrobe (I adore my surcotes okay!), but damn. tunics and tunic dresses get boring to sew really quickly.

Problem is, he’s just plain not interested in what he’s wearing, and what opinions he does have lean more towards Golden Age of Piracy, or straight-up Ren Faire, so either not in SCA Period, or painfully incorrect garb.

He seems pretty happy with Viking garb, too, at least, so nothing too difficult there. Now if only I could get him to pick fabrics of ANY COLOR BUT GREEN damN iT CRAiG yOU HaVE FOUr TUNICs anD THREE OF THEM aRe GREeN!!

*sigh* maybe we should add a byname to his persona, and he can be called “the Green” or something.

That moment when you’re working on your capstone paper and a phrase in one of your sources sparks an entire spiral of digressions from the original task at hand... *sigh* Just because you read about a dress code does not mean you need to sit down and figure out how to make it. Now I have even more to add to my Pennsic prep to-do list..
