Hello! I'm about to go to my very first Pennsic, and my first true SCA event as a trans adult! I know it's going to be incredibly hot, and there's good to be a lot of people. Is there anything I should know before my trip?
Congratulations on your first Pennsic, and for this milestone on your journey of being your authentic self! I'm so happy for you. <3
My advice is mostly for the weather:
Hydrate, wear your sunscreen, and don't forget your shade (a hat or a parasol).
Natural fibers like linen and cotton will feel better, because they will catch your sweat and evaporate faster.
Drink more water.
Don't underestimate powder. I like to use Anti Monkey Butt because it has calamine for the chaffing, no talc, and is absorbent for all those places you need the extra help.
Find some place to chill during the peak heat of the day. Some people think that's noon, but it's actually closer to the 2:00 - 3:00 pm hour.
You're not drinking enough water.
Wear comfortable shoes. Don't worry about what they look like or if it ruins the illusion- be comfortable. It's safer for you in the long run.
Be prepared to get wet, so prep your belongings. It seems like there's a flood or serious downpour every year.
I know others will have additional advice, and hopefully something for your personal experiences. Have ALL the fun, and be safe because I want to hear all about it when you get back!
