Pennsylvania Dutch family traditions Every year towards the end of summer when corn is plentiful and super cheap we get out the giant pot and make chicken corn soup. We eat our fill for a few days and freeze or can the rest for winter meals. Today is that day; and as i sit shucking the corn i remember sitting on the front porch with grams doing this every end of summer. Yes corn was always shucked on the porch because of the mess and the birds would take away the silk to add to their nests. Every family on the mountain had their own recipe for chicken corn soup and the size of your rivels could earn you praise or scorn in my tiny town. I tried many families soups over the years but i do believe ours was always the best, next to the churches of course. Every end of summer our little town church that my house sat just behind; went down to the tiny town park, which was equipped with a kitchen in a small building and they would cook massive amounts of chicken corn soup and the whole town would come and line up with their giant containers. The line would wrap around the building for an entire weekend. That was some mighty fine soup Primitiverootsconjure.com #primitiveroots #Primitiverootsconjure #padutch #pennsylvaniadutch #pennsylvaniawitches #mountainwitch #ancestors #traditions #chickencornsoup #eggun #egungun #culture #memories #pennsylvaniadutchcooking #powwower #powwow #yayinikki #munumidnight #cunningfolk #mountainmagic #appalachianfolkmagic #appalachiantraditions https://www.instagram.com/p/CEC6ylsnGYD/?igshid=hi6dm4ewpexq
