You Cannot Be...

Walking home listening to music eating skittles with a smile on your face.

An 18 year old kid buying soda at 1:30am.

A father of five selling CD’s to support your family.

A man that cannot breathe, when you’re being held in a chokehold.

A 26 year old accountant in your own home.

A 28 year old woman in your own home with your front door open.

You cannot be a husband and a father, with a legally registered firearm.

A woman with rights when pulled over by the police for failing to use a turn signal

A black man going for a jog.

A man who cries for his mother when he cannot breathe.

Black in America.

You cannot be.

Another unarmed black man was murdered,

The people are fed up.

The oppressors complained when a knee was taken in solidarity for equality.

They complained when we marched to the City Hall.

Now there are random hangings of black people throughout the US, daily.

Now black people don’t feel safe.

This generation has had enough!

The oppressors have oppressed this generation, for the last time.

Now, this generation will respond “by any means necessary”.

On behalf of the Black Community I would like to apologize to you, your family and your ancestors for all that you’ve endured at the hands of black people.

I AM SORRY that you are treated with no respect daily.

I AM SORRY that you’ve had to live in fear because of the color of your skin.

I AM SORRY that you are picked on because the size of your nose and your lips.

I AM SORRY that you are hurting because your children, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, mothers, fathers, grandpa and grandma are subjected to police brutality daily.

I AM SORRY that you are paid less than your fellow colleague with the same credentials.

I AM SORRY that you’ve had to explain to your family why they won’t be having dinner tonight, because you cannot afford it.

I AM SORRY that you are being abused; emotionally, physically and sexually.

I AM SORRY that you’ve considered suicide, when the rainbow is enuf.

I AM SORRY that your military service is not enough.

I AM SORRY that no matter how educated you are, you are still considered less than.

I AM SORRY that your culture offends me, but I still appropriate it.

I AM SORRY for my black privilege.
