     ❝ i don’t believe we’ve met -- ? ❞ he’d been hoping for a detective he knew to be working this scene ; he’s got a few meetings scheduled for this afternoon, and so rather wants to get the morning’s investigation done QUICKLY. unfortunately for him, though, he’s been confronted with a detective he’s never seen before -- he’ll have to play the game of EARNING HER TRUST before he can get anything done here. with any luck, she’ll be one of the types who only needs a warm smile & a few honeyed words before she’ll let him start examining the scene -- but considering how his day has gone so far, he’s doubtful he’s about to have any luck. 

          ---- ah, well. still can’t hurt to try. he gives her his sweetest smile, and holds out a hand for her to shake. ❝ kristoph gavin. i’m the defense on this case. it’s a pleasure. ❞

he’s lost in thought, sitting in a busy train station and watching the world go by. he’d been kid-sitting pearl an hour before, practicing reading with her and listening to her talk about her day. she’s been so brave lately-- the little viper girl powered through so much. likely more than he did... 

his attention is caught, however, when a girl sits down on the bench next to him. he gives her a glance and pauses-- she seems oddly familiar, but he can’t recall why. “...hey?”

The superior court is turning into a kindergarten. If it isn't Wright and his ever-expanding brood of Feys disrupting the cafeteria, then that dubious honour goes to impressionable interns fawning over some defence attorney playing mentor. Though Miles doesn't recognise the blonde girl currently gunning for the coffee machine, he recognises the lawyer she came in with.

He feels no pressing need to make a bedfellow of Ms Star, so he has even less interest in her staff. Acknowledging the young woman from the corner of his eye is the closest Miles gets—until she forces his hand by abruptly appearing beside his table. It seems she succeeded in securing drinks. It seems she wants to know if this vacant seat is taken.

Perhaps it's the novelty of someone like her approaching him (does she not realise who she's talking to?), but he doesn't think to protest. He'd have no grounds to do so regardless, instead scrutinising her for a moment over his notebook.

"Go ahead," he says, ultimately, with an ambivalent wave of a hand. "I'd rather you than some upstart from the precinct."

👀 + have you ever hired another attorney for your firm, aside from Ray/Tateyuki? if not, have you considered hiring others? gone through an application process?

“Only a few. None stayed particularly long. They either left out of a desire to work in a more established firm or I fired them out of a conflict in ideologies. The latter’s only happened once, though; a rather rude Themis alumni who refused to acknowledge the importance of a client’s trust and put a trial in jeopardy through his methods.”

It was through the deluge of strangers passing through Los Angeles streets that Maya saw her. It wasn’t someone she was well acquainted with, in fact she was fairly sure she’d never met her before in her life. Yet she could do little to quiet the persistent and nagging voice in her head that told her, letting this mystery girl get away would be a mistake. A slave to her curiosity, Maya had little choice but to struggle through the stream of people that pushed her this way and that. It took some effort but the strangers face was getting gradually closer.  Hey…wait a minute, she did recognize that face! It was that assistant to that super pretty lawyer idol! Efforts now renewed upon realization Maya gave one last burst of energy that had her stumbling in front of her target. 

"You! You're Summer Star's assistant aren't you? That's. So. Cool! She's like a super hero! Like the steel samurai! Gorgeous pop idol by day and fearless defender of justice by night! She's nothing like Nick!"
