Trump’s threat to unleash the military to “retake” Seattle reflects the fear in the ruling class that this modest expression of people’s power will inspire workers and youth to take similar measures elsewhere, especially coming on the heels of the burning down of the 3rd Police Precinct in Minneapolis.

OECD compared the economies and wages in 23 countries between 2007 and 2015. The UK was one of four countries where wages contracted over that period, and the second biggest wage contraction overall. Only Greece (who had austerity measures imposed on them by the EU) performed worse than the UK, who had austerity measures imposed by their own government. The UK was the only country of the 23 where the economy grew, but workers did not share the fruits of this success in the form of higher wages.

North Carolina People’s Assembly builds resistance

Since the election of Donald Trump as president, activists across the country have been experimenting with various forms of resistance and power-building. 

A broad formation of grass-roots organizations has come together in North Carolina to build a People’s Assembly, pulling together many of the local struggles for Black, immigrant, Muslim, worker, women’s, LGBTQ, environmental and electoral rights. The assembly seeks to turn spontaneous actions into sustained organizing.

We had another exciting Triangle People's Assembly session yesterday in Durham, NC. This process started in December 2016 and today was the third people's assembly. We discussed attacks on immigrants, Muslims, workers and other marginalized communities; the need for an action on May Day 2017; and other future actions. Please join this grassroots people's movement and help us build power for the most marginalized in our community. The next people's assembly will be on 3/19/17 (location will be decided soon)
