Took noticed of the Grilled Fish (烤鱼) stall the last time we were at Teng Sheng Food Gallery (腾胜) located in Sembawang Shopping Centre. They have four flavours to choose from – Mala (麻辣味), Hot & Spicy (香辣味), Pickled Vegetable (酸菜味) and Green Pepper (青椒味) with several levels of spiciness. I opted for mala flavour with the lowest Scoville Heat Units (SHU) since I know mum can’t handle the higher spiciness.
My Mala Grilled Fish (麻辣烤鱼) came complete with food candles underneath to heat up the dish. For S$25, you get a decent sized sea bass swimming in a spicy concoction of spices, black fungus, tofu skin and Chinese cabbage. I also added bean curd (S$1.30), shimeiji mushrooms (S$1.80) and two bowls of white rice (S$0.60 each). The fish which is fried first before going for its fiery bath is fresh and tender. Slowly picking out the various ingredients to go with the rice, it is quite a filling meal for the both of us.
