They’re not identical in details but there’s some basic shared structure between the hero/love interest/villain relationships in Iron Man 3 and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog (which makes sense, IM3 is a classic superhero-centric comic book movie and DHSAB is a villain-protagonist spin on such stories) but now what I really, really want to see Pepper Potts and Penny sitting down to coffee together (or in a full on support group) to talk about dating superheroes, surviving supervillain stalkers, and how the fuck to hang onto your own life goals while all that shit is going down.
I’ve thrown the two verses together before, thinking about Penny with SHIELD, and now I’m thinking about her getting an offer to work for Stark Industries humanitarian aid division, but frankly she strikes me as someone who’d be hella wary of a weapons giant company, no matter how much they claim to have reformed, so it’s more likely she’s doing other work and just, like, teams up with them sometimes for joint projects-
Oh fuck, oh geez, Pepper/Penny rom com, take all those fic tropes of Tony throwing Stark money at charity projects by people he’s trying to woo but give those tropes to Pepper instead, look at what a humanitarian CEO I am Penny look look look. Aren’t you glad your shelter got funded? Don’t you like the green power cells we donated?
“Yes, we do like them, we sent Stark Industries a thank you card and put you on the list of invitees for the charity gala next year, Ms. Potts.”
“Please, call me Pepper.”
“All right, Pepper. But you do see, don’t you, how many of our residents are veterans who’ve been failed by the government once their years of service ended, traumatized by the wars your company grew rich profiteering on, and how much better it would be if they’d received full support to start with-”
“I’ll buy you a senator.”
