EARTHLY LIFE takes some getting used to.
HE, HOWEVER, is grateful he has a life at all -- he anticipates he would have met a rather grim fate had fortune not blessed him with a merciful rescue. Charlotte is kind enough to allow the visitor to remain at her home, but in his gratitude, he finds he feels terribly awkward when asking her for assistance. After all, he is immensely indebted to her, and it hardly makes sense to cause his savior further inconveniences.
DESPITE HIS height, he seems to shrink in the doorway, dressed in borrowed clothes two sizes too big, his nervous fingers awkwardly twisted together: ❝ Charlotte, ❞ he begins tepidly, his voice low as he fumbles with the pronunciation of her name, ❝ I ... don’t want to bother you. But I can’t ... remember how to change the record on the record player, ❞ he admits sheepishly.
