Performer Tips: Learn to Memorize Quickly
Memorizing can be hard, and everyone learns to memorize a little bit differently. Being able to memorize material at a fast pace, just gives you an advantage to add more nuances and details to your work when you audition. The easier it is to book those jobs!
Performer Tips: Auditions & that One Chance
Treat your auditions as if they are the one chance you get to perform that role. You may never get another chance to act those lines or dance that dance. Consider it a performance and rise to the occasion. You will do better. And if the part is right for you, you will book more.
Be Prepared. Be Memorized. Be able to take direction. Shine!
Performer Tips: Slow Audition Season
Always build yourself during slow audition periods. You can't just depend on your agents/managers. Go to open calls for theatre, audition for short films & student films, work on your fitness, take a class. Most important of all, STAY BUSY! Waiting around for the phone to ring will do you no favors. Level Up.
Performer Tips: Dancers Study Acting
Are you a dancer? Want to open more opportunities for yourself? Start taking acting classes and learn how to act. It will open yourself up for more job opportunities in booking TV/Film/Broadway.
Casting a Dance role with someone who can do lines with depth behind them is so much more hireable. Dancers emote so much when they dance, but usually when given lines fall apart. Often times older dancers decide to jump into acting class when they are winding down their dance careers, and its often too late. They are then competing against actors who have been studying the craft for years upon years, and the dancers are playing catch up.
Be able to book jobs that don't revolve around dancing. If you can book a role that involves no dancing at all, your performing career will extend so much further. Scene study, Improv, Monologue work, and character development are all classes to dive into. Don't be that awkward actor in a dance concept video, be that great actor in a role on film or stage!
