I think this depends a lot on what kinds of scents you associate hope with…. I’m going to suggest Diorissimo by Dior, which is a lily-of-the-valley soliflore. It smells like spring and the beginnings of new things, gardens, youth, and softness.

Actually I’ve heard that Messe de Minuit (Etro) smells exactly like this but I’ve never been able to locate and access the perfume and find out for myself, perhaps you might?
EDIT: Also I just realised that I’d actually written to her when I saw this, and I also suggested, Le Labo Vetiver 46, Aedas de Venustas Copal Azur, L’Artisan Parfumeur Timbuktu and Armani Privé Bois d’Encens.

i'm looking for the perfect perfume for a girl i adore--she is seventeen but utterly sophisticated for her age, fluent in ancient greek and quotes from flaubert and wears navy coats with a drop of burgundy--but she is also pure and otherworldly, almost like a dream. i know this sounds contradictory but this is what she is like and i'm having such a hard time finding the right scent--please help me out!

Tacit is my favourite Aesop perfume – it smells of roots and herbs and has such a lovely, gentle drydown. Very wearable. It has been compared to Armani Privé’s Vetiver D’Hiver, so try that perhaps?
